    Thanks stef240377
You can only take the Folic acid on its own until 12 weeks bfp, something to do with too much vit a in them. does this mean i have to start taking the mum to be once i am pregnant? as they contain folic acid too dont they?

Hello Iloveholidays and welcome to the board. Hope your stay is short and successful.:)

I was concerned to see the above statement in red as it is false.
Vitamin A is a separate nutrient from folic acid. Folic acid is a water-soluble B vitamin naturally found in food sources. It can be stored easily in the body and since it is water soluble, can be flushed away so no threat of ever overdoing it. It will prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida in a developing foetus and the urgency to take it in first 12 weeks is because the brain develops very early on. 400mg will suffice per day.

It does no harm whatsoever to take a good multivitamin for both of you. The men would be fine with a normal multivit with emphasis on vits C, (prevents sperm clumping together) Vitamin E (important in endocrine function - and efficient release of reproductive hormones) and Zinc (increases sperm count and their ability to swim - motility).

Women need a more tailored supplement because of the slight risk of taking too much Vitamin A - this comes in 2 forms 1) retinol and 2) carotene. The retinol form of vit A in excessive amounts can harm a developing baby so best stick to a pill made for trying to conceive purposes.
I don't rate Boots at all - not since I bought a basal thermometer for about £7 in there (I was naive:o) when you can get them for £3 online!

Get your man a multivit with zinc - For instance 90 tabs cost as little as a fiver for him E.g
Naturescare A-Z Multivitamins & Minerals (Super Strength) 90 Tablets - Containing 31 of the most essential nutrients £4.99
and for you, you could try Pregnacare conception for £8.78 (90 tabs) from Amazon - sometimes getting lucky with the free delivery.;)
Boots Sanatogen mother to be 3 for 2 offer works out as 180 tablets for £26 so you could save a tenner at least if you shop around. Very MS!

Sorry for harping on, but don't want you getting the wrong idea from the off.

RIK1978 - yay for you - sending sticky bean vibes and a healthy 8 months ahead x

RIK - Congrats on your BFP :j

So here we are again second time lucky me hopes.

Not having such a good day today but I am taking one day at a time. Managed to box up the things for bean that sadly didn't make it and they have been stored away for the next BFP fingers crossed.:o

Just makes it seem more real that that bean has gone and we are back to the world of TTC with all the highs & lows that it brings with it.

I wish I had a magic wand and could make each of you have a BFP and a safe & happy proceeding 8 months. If I could I hope you know that I would in a heartbeat. xoxo :A

    Morning Ladies,

Rik - Huge congrats for your BFP. I wish you a very healthy and happy 8 months :)

CD9 for me and have done the first BD of the month :j Went to the dentist yesterday, and hadn't been in a while :o But it did take me ages to find an available NHS dentist - and now I have. The good news is, is that when you are pregnant you get free treatment :j I came away with some antibiotics and penicillin that I'm supposed to take for a week. But this week is when I ovulate, so don't really want to take them. I think I will wait until the end of the 2ww and if AF shows then I will take them.

Gah, must start applying for jobs again tomorrow. It's just so time consuming lol

Hugs and sticky baby dust to all x

Morning all, got plenty of time to be here today as I'm covering another department for 3 hours and can't do any of my own work while I'm here :j

Rik, I must've missed your BFP announcement, I'm sorry :o huge congrats to you anyway, I've got my fingers crossed that you have a happy, healthy 8 months or so!

Aw Tinks, that's a lovely thing to say, I too wish I could wave a wand and give everyone very sticky BFPs.

Penny, I'm so glad you've finally stopped bleeding, it must be such a relief for you.

Well, still nothing to report here, continue to be getting twinges in abdomen but ( . )( . ) aren't as sore so I'm suspecting I'll be out again this month.

I saw my (heavily pregnant) work colleague yesterday and she loved the Peter Rabbit cot blanket that I made for her, it's so nice when you can see that someone really appreciates all the work and time spent on something!

Oh Retro, have a cyber rub on the back! I felt like that when my af turned up, miserable and just fed up....I think the longer we try the more stoic we become over time. I don't think it helps living in this fast-paced modern world. We're not really used to waiting for anything any more so this seems like an age but we'll get there, maybe not this month, but soon and for the rest of 8 months.:)
