Exactly - I don't know of many other vBulletin boards of THIS size out there. Not to mention that nearly all boards have individual bits of code built in depending on the exact boards requirements. There are no 2 large boards exactly the same.
It's NOT as simple as just "testing it on something first". :)

As Martin has said himself on the main site, this is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest vBulletin forum in existence. So, of course bugs are expected. The site is the 53rd most visited site in the UK... that is a lot for a site with no adverts and no actual selling of things. All revenue comes from some affiliated links which needs to pay for the hosting, servers, upgrades, legal fees, staff, software, hardware and development of the site.

I have several websites myself, and as with this forum, I make experiments on locally hosted servers before implementing onto my main site.

Unfortunately, as with most things in life, until it is implemented onto the actual site you simply don't know.

So for those of you slagging off the site, just think about why it isn't perfect.

Just as a side note, would it not be better for you to make a new topic within this sub-forum with your queries and not in this topic which is probably not looked at now.

That (the bit I have put in bold) is total rubbish though. This site barely makes the top 75 biggest forums, around 30 of which use vBulletin. I use three of those 30 myself, and only one of them has minor glitches like this one. I however doubt that any of those 30 use an 'out of the box' vBulletin installation, as others have said.

I think you are quite naive about affiliate links - they pay many many more times money than a click of an advert does. On a site I run I get £20 just for someone signing upto an affiliate link and spending around 70p (the hope is that they will spend more of course). Affiliate links are big big business. In addition to that, don't forget all those pennies that add up from the MP3 price checker etc. Just to add - I certainly don't begrudge the site for using them at all - it is how the site is funded, and people should use them where possible.

If there was a major problem after implementation of an upgrade I would expect the site to be rolled back to the last good version. But I really don't think this (search issue) is a major problem that could justify that, it is probably just worth tweaking now that it is live.

Has anyone from MSE towers acknowledged there is a problem and given some indication of if/when the problem will be fixed?

I know a lot of people do not use the comps board, but there are thousands that do, and i really am not looking forward to tomorrow - the first of the month is always very busy with new comps (not forgetting daily/weekly/monthly ones as well) and i can already see huge problems for us all, and so much work for our poor BGs - if there was some light at the end of this very dark tunnel, it would be much appriciated!

    Not as yet.

I think they must be too embarrassed at the mess-up?

hi catowen, given that the comps boards are usually the 2nd highest viewer
    ratings.. at the moment..

    Competitions Time (544 Viewing)

would have thought maybe there would have been some feedback about the search problem, but, sadly doesn't seem to be any, Martins Doll, grannybiker & a few of us have been mentioning it since the upgrade on a few threads in here, also been mentioned in the comps. discussions, it seems to be on all the boards, not just the comps board that the search isn't working,
not sure if we're posting about it on the right board? should we be asking the BG's to ask MSE Towers about the problem, or should we perhaps be posting somewhere else on here regarding problems with the search ?

    OK, here's today's dilemma..
I have a load of new comps to post, later today.
Unfortunately, I have absolutely no means of searching for them as Search still isn't showing new postings.
I have to work today, so won't have time to sit and watch new comps as they're posted.

    So, do I...
    a) Post them anyhow so everyone can enter, but contribute to the absolute chaos & disruption on the boards that will result if as everyone does the same?(and risk the wrath of Darren! :))
    b) NOT post them, thus risking no-one spotting them and being able to enter if everyone does the same?

Any advice would be most welcome, particularly from those on high who have been surpringly quiet on this issue....?
Worse things will have happened in the world today...
