Forum down for upgrades

Hi folks,
We are planning some major upgrades this week so I'm afraid that we're having to take down the Forums from midnight this Thursday, January 28th, 2010 until 9am Friday morning.
We're getting in two new shiny database servers that should see us through several years of growth and will hopefully allow us the resource to sort out the nagging problems with slowness, glitching and search that we've been experiencing recently.
Apologies for taking it away from you but I'm sure you'll bear with us and find something else to do...such as sleep.

Is this why there has been so much downtime & so many server upgrades recently?
And are you sure this will fix the problem?@ LBM = £15,872.65, now £10,819.82AF Jan = 7/? Feb = 5/14 Mar = 14/20 Apr = 6/14 May = 2/14 June 2/14 July 0/TF Aug 1/TFv Sept 6/TF Oct 4/7"NEVER DOUBT YOUR OWN QUALITY"0 -

When will you upgrade to VBulletin v4? Please!0

What problems, the site has always been fast, apart from when its been down for all these upgrades?
What are the problems?
Sometimes, a new server is only a band-aid.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
Did you get a deal on the new servers? Cashback? ;-)0

What are the problems?
Ones I have noticed are glitching and lagging in the forum search function.
Glitching - In other words the the forums sometimes throws up an erroneous "no results" message on a search, when it's clear there should actually be many. For example when searching the past posts of a user with 100's/1000's of posts, and being told by the forum search that "no posts exist".
Lagging - Frequently the search database lags behind the live boards by a significant time. Sometimes over 30 mins or so. Makes it very difficult to find recent posts by a user should you wish to.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Annoying to me and others on here. Several threads about it here, so certainly not just me.
One of the other big problems is the slowdown that sometimes happens on "email" day or other busy days. A few weeks ago the forum was almost unusable for a significat part of one day.
OK, 95-99% of the times things run great. Would still be nice to help reduce the times when it doesn't.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Typical user responses, no idea what goes on behind the scenes to make this stuff work. Give the techies a break it needs to be done to keep it future proof.0
