    Hello

Any advice? Last time we were overseas was 4 year ago.

We are going to take dollars but what other form of payment can we use, we have halifax accounts, just worry about the charges. Also have a credit card that could be used.

    Thank You

There are a ton & a half of the cash passports around, prepaid cards which are accepted almost anywhere (they tend to be Mastercard/Visa) & are highly convenient. I think there's a link to the "best" ones on this site if you look on the travel bit, I used them without any issue - though it's a bit weird signing for stuff again! (Chip & pin isn't as widely used in the US apparently)

was in Ny in september and bought the new york day pass well worth its money as you get bus tickets included so can just jump on one of the buses and get off where you need you get tickets for the boats included too. A great little diner we found was just off from the steps on time square on 47th st called Evergreen it was great and not expensive at all. Wendys is cheap especially their deal i had a wrap and large coffee for 3 dollars. the day pass app has a feature where you can orginise your iteniary for the day and that way you get the most out of your day. if you want a nice restaraunt try Brazil Brazil on 46th st they do lovely food and will also split a meal so you can share as myself and my mum are small eaters, this is good when you have children.

  • In London I am signed up for weekly deals to places like Strada, Zizzi, Cafe Rouge, Ask Italian and some more local to me restaurants. Now I have no idea where we might be eating while in NY for seven days but are there any deals that I can sign up to in case we use chains rather than little eating places on some days? I guess even money off a cup of coffee when walking around, Subway, McDonalds etc?

Groupon is a good place to find food/drink deals. But away from the tourist areas, i find NY cheaper for food/drink than what i wld pay for the equivalent in london. portion size is also bigger than UK, so quite often one main and a side is enough for 2 people. Cant really say ive come across many chain type places other than fast food or burger places (hard rock, shake shack, etc), and prices vary depending on location, with deals not valid in prime tourist locations. Much better to head off the main areas and go to independent restaurants/cafes
  • Hi all... I've booked to go to NYC this Christmas (yay!) as it also coincides with my son's 18th on the 23rd. I really want to book us on a helicopter flight on his actual birthday... please could anyone advise the best place to book this... anyone got any recommendations please. Would like to do it now so I know we can definitely do it! Thank you in advance.

  • Hi

Looking for ideas for our late Sept holiday, the plan at the moment is:

    2 nights NYC
    5 nights somewhere
    2nights NYC

The problem is, where is the somewhere, we don't really fancy another flight, so ideas at the moment are easy train ride? Where is close enough on the train for a "holiday" ideally pool/beach, shops, something to do at night....Open to all suggestions?

    Thanks

I think if it were me and I was looking at 5 nights elsewhere I'd confine it to either Boston, Philidelphia or Washington DC, maybe even Toronto at a stretch. Each of those is a reasonable train ride away - granted none are "beach" types but all are places one could consider to be good to visit. In theory it's possible to grab a train from Penn Station to Miami but at 30hrs there & the same back, no thanks! Look at New Jersey for some beach stuff though, it's something I never looked into as well, living 3hrs away from golden beaches it's never occurred to me to fly to New York with a bucket & spade.
