Hi Wishing4kissing
We will be in the crowd for Thanksgiving day parade with you, will wave if we see you LOL.
We have been at Christmas before so thought we would give Thanksgiving a go
Lizzielie - did you have to book a restaurant for thanks giving before you left UK or did you book when you arrived in NY ? that is the only thing worrying us (well me) a bit.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
Just booked up for my first trip to New York
so excited.
It's not until the 26th May next year for 7 nights. Staying in the Salisbury hotel, has anyone else stayed there?
I have read reviews and I know it's older in style but I'm hoping to just be there to sleep.
Including flights and hotel it was £875 which I'm happy with.
Flying BA from Glasgow to JFK returning from Newark to Glasgow.
If anyone has any must see suggestions that would be great0 -

Great time of year to go! Well done for picking that, warm and not sticky. Think of sunset things to do, ToTR, roof top cocktail bars, boat trips etc.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Richardw, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic haha. I was told to avoid June, July and August.0

He's not being sarcastic, May is usually a good month for weather in NYC. Not sure why you were told to avoid June, that's also generally good, it tends to get a lot more sticky from mid July to early September, but can still be good.
Have a good read of this thread for lots of things to do. The obvious ones are Top of The Rock / Empire State Building (some people do both, some only one), Central Park, river cruises, Statue of Liberty etc. There is also the 9/11 Memorial, the High Line and more museums and shopping than you could ever want. Rooftop bars as richardw suggested, and plenty more besides that you can find here, depends what you like.
You are staying near Central Park, if the weather is good, get yourself a picnic from a deli, sit in the park with the locals on a weekend afternoon and watch the world go by.
BTW, you will be there over a holiday weekend, the Monday you will be there is Memorial Day, which is a national holiday. All the attractions should be open as normal, but be aware that there might be more domestic tourists around than usual as a result. Not a real problem, NYC is a big city and can take it.
Enjoy, one of my favourite cities in the world.0 -
Hi SW17, yeah I noticed the 30th was Memorial Day, maybe it will be like that sex and the city episode with all the sailors :rotfl:
Really looking forward to it, can't wait to plan out my 'zones' for the day and what we can do in each location, cos I don't fancy going up and down when it can be made nice and compact, which is another reason I wanted 7 rather than 4 night
Was thinking also Empire State during the day and top of the rocks at night as well as an evening Brooklyn bridge stroll. But we are still months away so thinks can change.0 -
Not being sarcastic, May really is a great time to go.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Sorry for not replying sooner, but I have been away. We had a late flight back the same day, so we didn't book any restaurants. We did have lunch though, and unless you are looking for a specific restaurant, we had no difficulties in finding somewhere to eat. Although it was very busy! I am guessing though, dinner would be a bit different. Hopefully someone will come along that can answer your question
Have fun planning!0 -
Hi,
I am going to New York soon. Has anyone here ever gone up to the crown on the statue of liberty before? I booked it (through statuecruises.com) months ago and looking now the time on it is 11:00 AM. Is that the time I need to be at Battery Park for the boat across or the time I will actually be going up the statue (i.e. I would already have needed to have made the boat trip earlier). Am wondering what time I need to get to Battery Park for really. Thanks!0 -

Definitely not sarcasm. I've been in May (first half of month) and it was good. The first two days were a bit rainy and overcast, about 18 degrees, the last three were 29 degrees and scorching
Wasn't too busy, would definitely go that time of year again.0
