Hi, thanks for all the advice so far, its very much appreciated, especially the recommendations of where to eat :j:j

We will be arriving in NY at middayish but my daughter will be really tired (and grumpy probably!) so want to avoid dragging her on loads of public transport if poss.....

What's the best way of getting from JFK to Times Square area most economically (but quickly/comfortably if possible)

    Thank you!

Taxi will be a flat fare + tips & toll which will get you there, around $60ish or thereabouts. (http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/passenger/taxicab_rate.shtml) For me that's probably the most convenient as private transfers may be significantly more expensive for not much more comfort/speed.

May also be possible to check out Uber, I personally haven't used them but others have & found them to be worthwhile. Think someone posted a discount code earlier in the thread as well.

I don't know if this has been recommended already, but we've just had a superb deal on the City Car/Grey Line Hop on Hop Off bus.

A single tour, Downtown or Uptown costs $49. However, you can get both for $59' then a free New York by night bus and a free boat Hop on Hop Off!
    That's $29 to buy separately.

We also get an Eat/Play card, giving discounts on meals and attractions.

The concierge at our hotel explained it all and printed off the voucher so all we had to do was collect the tickets at noisy Madam Tussards,

Can I ask how you did this??

Do you have to buy it whilst in NYC??

I did say that the concierge at our hotel put us on to it. No need to buy in advance.

All I asked was which was the best bus line. It was a marvellous buy for $59.

Hotel staff in general are an excellent source of information for things in New York, that's the reason why a great many of them make a ton in tips. They're not all good for tips, but more often than not they'll be able to point you in the right direction for almost anything in the city.

Anyone know how long it usually takes to get through immigration at JFK Airport late evening (9-10PM) on a weekday?

To be honest they're not too bad, I know I was around 25 minutes at 2pm midweek but that was timing more than anything else as a second arrival got in just behind us.
