Where is the best place to go ice skating?

I am going first week in February if this has any influence.

The most famous NYC winter skating rink is at the Rockefeller Center, next is probably the one in Central Park near the zoo. There are various other options now including in Bryant Park and at the Standard Hotel on the High Line. Haven't seen those 2 myself, but you can see some options on these links:

Park is bigger and cheaper than the rockefella . we did the park in Feb . spent a good amount of time there . after going to the rockefalla with the great idea of skating we just didn't fancy it . sardines on ice . we gave it some time had a coffee and enjoyed the music .

hi, i know some of these question might have already been covered but as i dont really know where to look i thought it would be best to ask
I have been invited to my brothers wedding in NY, central park on 18th sept. we are hoping to fly out on the 16th and return on 21st .
as this is the first and possibly the last time i have been to NY or even the US, I have no idea as to what i should deffo be doing, what to avoid How to save money etc.'
I have read somewhere that certain places give discounts or freebies if you can prove your an international traveller can anyone point me where these can be obtained.
The other thing i wanted to ask is my brother wants to do something after the wedding like a meal etc. He is checking out a possible river cuise but does anyone have any other ideas. Somewhere where the brid can go in her gown etc

1st off you need to sort your travel insurance out

2nd off you need to get an esta from the link below

    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

if you dont have an esta they wont let you in the country.

certain places do give discounts for out of towners for example macy's and bloomingdales will give you a 10% out of towners discount card if you pop along to their customer service with some proof of id

Well reading all 378 pages certainly took some time.

Myself and the wife are going mid June for 9 nights with Thomas Cook, the flights cost £300 each and fly Man to JFK.
We are unlikely to visit New York for another few years and seeing as it is the wifes first time we are doing every single tourist thing we can think of. Also I prefer booking our events early, easier to figure out spending money.

So far we have booked :

the TOTR (not picked the day but got the sun and stars package so we can wait for a clear day)
    Amateur night at the apollo,
    The Yankees V Miami,
The Crown of the SOL (this is set on a given day and time)
    Tickets for the ESB

Also hoping to get the wife tickets for Barry Manilow in New Jersey.

The hotel choice was pretty difficult, so much choice and some crazy prices, anyway we have booked the Hampton Inn Manhattan / United Nations. this gave us what we feel to be a pretty decent rated hotel at a reasonable rate. It cost us about 160 per night, may see something cheaper but to honest my head was spinning with the choices. We did consider Long Island city but as mentioned it is her first time so preferred Manhattan.

We do plan on going to coney island, going on a circle line sightseeing cruise and having a day or two poking around Brooklyn.

Anyway thanks to you all for so much information, i am now off to try and create some google maps to help us out with the location of everything. Thanks again

I know, 9 nights is bit long, to get the flights so cheap we only had a choice of 5 or 9 nights. We didn't feel 5 was long enough.

Sure we can fill our time well with plenty of sightseeing and lots of food and drink. :)

If you need ideas (probably not) then how about the train ride alongside the Hudson River to Poughkeepsie?

How about a 2 day trip to Washington DC? We are going by train from NY, then off to other destinations, but you could easily have an overnight then back the next evening. Or even 2 nights to give yourself time.
