  • Has anyone used priceline for hotels there? i read good things.. im going in May.. i have a cancellable hotel (up to the night before) and i was going to try my luck and priceline the same price i have for a two star (about £100 a night.. might start slightly lowers) for a five star in times square or midtown as i like that area. Was going to do this the week before i leave.. is that a good time? Its for four nights midweek

All your comments will be very much appreciated!

Not used it myself as i tend to stay outside of Manhattan & go cheap & cheerful. There is some info/tips on the main MSE site regards Priceline which you might find useful.
What came first, the music or the misery?
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

I am looking at going to the 9/11 museum the first week in February.

If you turn up on the day, are there long waiting lines?

    Or do people recommend pre-booing?

If you're going to be there on a Tuesday they do free tickets for the evening, released 2 weeks in advance.
  • Wondering if anyone has used Airbnb when going to NY?
Going for 3 weeks in May & although i'm spending some time in a hotel as i have reward points to use, i also fancy experiencing something different.

New York has very strict rules regarding holiday rentals and you will probably find that most Airbnb rentals in at least Manhattan are not legal, and therefore it is a big risk (which IMO is not worth taking).

No, i wouldn't want to take that risk either. I was aware of the holiday rental regulations but thought Airbnb didn't fall into that category.
Especially so, when you see over 1000 listings on the website - i'll have to check into this further before deciding.

Have a look on tripadvisor forums, Airbnb is certainly not exempt and there is some strong feeling over there!

    I will thanks.

I was browsing around last night & it's certainly a very complex situation as to what constitutes legal - in my situation, i was looking to stay with someone rather than rent somewhere out & that seems to fall more on the legal side but still with some grey areas.

Has anyone any experience of the Millennium Broadway hotel, especially the standard rooms?

Have stayed there, but it was maybe 3/4 years ago. Rooms are generally a decent size for NYC and are clean. The room decor was a little tired when I was there, but if the hotel's website pics are now typical, they've done some soft renovation to improve them.

Location is fantastic for a tourist, though the area is noisy, which might be an issue if you are on a lower floor or are particularly sensitive to noise. Nice BBQ restaurant called Virgil's opposite the hotel entrance on W 44th St.

Thanks for the reply. Tripadvisor is a bit mixed on the reviews which has me a bit worried but the rate was $209 + tax for June which seems very good.
