  • Glad you had a wonderful time kizkiz.

Would echo the 7 day $30 MTA card - very useful for stays of 5 days or more.
What came first, the music or the misery?
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?
  • We have been saving up for a trip to NY next year for a week. We are a family of 4 and the teenagers cant really share a room without killing each other these days. Ideally Id like one big apartment or suite sleeping 4 with a separate bedroom and a sofabed and a bit of a kitchen/living room to keep the eating costs down.

Do these sort of places exist in NY and how do I search for them? If I put in 'one bedroom' they are just ordinary hotel rooms with two doubles all in one room. If I search 'two bedrooms' I get two separate rooms probably miles apart. Really I'd call it a family room but the search boxes only allow numbers which is driving me mad.

    Any ideas or recommendations

  • Homewood Suites? 2 queen beds and a sofa bed. And breakfast.

I'm not totally clear on your expectations of sleeping arrangements, but this chucks one of the teens into a separate room. You're stuck with the other one though!

Letting of short holiday apartments is technically illegal in the five boroughs that make up NYC, so be careful.

Look for apart hotels and hotels with rooms with suites and connecting rooms, there's http://www.radiocityapts.com that may suit.

how do I search for them?
This might be worth a try. Go into Google Maps https://maps.google.com and within that system do a search for:
"hotel suite" near new york city
You need the quotes, otherwise it'll list a lot of ordinary hotels and office suites.
    Here's what I just got:
    https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=%22hotel+suite%22+near+new+york+city&hl=en&ll=40.737502,-73.988628&spn=0.09404,0.209255&sll=40.770012,-73.976612&sspn=0.093994,0.209255&hq=%22hotel+suite%22&hnear=New+York,+New+York+County,+New+York,+United+States&t=m&z=13
Hope this helps, sorry if it doesn't.

    Hi Flora

Have a look at the link, there may be something of some use to you. Remember it may look expensive, but it may workout similar to 2 rooms in a hotel, but with a lot more space.

  • We've book the best western hospitality house for next summer. Got a rate (cancellable) of $299 plus tax per night and it includes breakfast. Also look at the affinia hotels and the beacon.

I wouldn't book through holiday letting a or similar, many New York lettings will be illegal.

If they're in any of the five NYC boroughs, then letting for short periods is illegal

Tell them to get over it: they won't be spending much time in the hotel and you will have that much more spending money if they do.

When we went, DS3 was adamant he wasn't sharing a double bed with either of his brothers. I just said it was their choice: there were the beds, sort it out. And they did, but I confess I'm not sure how. Yup, double (or larger) beds are the norm.

We had a couple of 'suite' rooms in the Holiday Inn in New Jersey on our way home. Two rooms, two double beds in each, microwave and coffee machine in each. They were given the chance of one of them coming in with us, but their Dad's snoring put them off ...

I am looking to book for New York next year in April. Can anyone offer a good starting place to start to plan. I have looked through a lot of this thread but am finding it a bit overwhelming. Its OH 50th so I want to make it special.

    Many thanks
