Yes Mark thanks for your help, was aware not near but we are hoping to get off manhattan abs def would love to see Williamsberg after yours & others comments. Just thinking its prob the best day to visit and then make out way down to Barclays in evening but any other suggestions are lost welcome! All starting to feel a bit real now :):):)

It is doable, if you plan things right. The easiest way to get from Williamsburg down to the Barclays Center is to get the G Train. This is one of the only trains that doesn't actually ever go into Manhattan. Get the train from Metropolitan Ave, and head down to Fulton Street. You're only a 5 minute walk from there.

Check out those stops on Google Maps, and you should be good. What do you really want to see in Williamsburg and I'll see what I can suggest!

What hotel is it? Carmel is normally $44 plus toll and tip ($5 toll ish, and $8.80 tip, round up to $58 will do the trick).

As for you being 2 girls in NYC means that not many people will bat an eyelid. At night the subway is busy until the early hours, 2am is considered to be late, and the trains will still be busy, and occasionally standing room only too!

Steak is expensive, with sides and wine, you could be looking over $50 per person.. Have you checked MenuPages? check ny.eater.com for loads of recommendations and also the heat map which shows what's hot right now. I'd much rather go to somewhere unique to NYC, there are over 20,000 restaurants, rather than a chain restaurant such as TGI's.

With only 35 pages left to read of this entire thread I'm also building my 5 day Itinerary for NYC while I read through all the good tips...

I was wondering do most people go back to hotel to freshen up/shower/drop bags off etc or just stay out to maximize time in the city?

We did, some days, if it was convenient to do so depending on how close to the hotel we were.

Oh gosh yes ....... one needs to freshen up for the evening !!!

We'd been out all day one summer and I had been wearing crocs ! (yes I know) but no socks ! Anyway we ended up in a bar having a few drinks chatting to other people sitting at the bar as you do. Way past midnight we staggered back to the hotel and to bed. Woke up next morning only to find my feet were black from the previous days outing !!! The bed sheets were black as well from my feet !

Never again .............. but we always say that !

Bags? what are they for. I head back to the hotel to sober up and have a nap to get over the lunchtime drinking session to prepare myself for an evening of drinking. *hic*

I always look at heading back to the hotel by around 5pm, and leaving the hotel around 9pm, and getting back for around 2am, and leaving around 11am.

I rarely stay out all the time, and it's about seeing New York and remembering, not tiring yourself out and not appreciating the city.

Sam Adams is a Boston beer, you can find much better microbrews in NYC than that. Start with Brooklyn Lager. Try Sixpoint Resin or 3Beans if you can find it. Also, make sure she doesn't go over her £390 limit.

Beer, you're allowed 12 litres back to the UK!
