You'll be ok. Its still very early to book - options for 3/4 days in NYC are generally always available. What you can do is research the hotels and book cancellable rates for those just in case you do not opt for a package.
What is your ideal budget? for both flights and hotel together.
Edit - How will you be able to keep the surprise for so long! What a lovely surprise to have
Thanks for the info - i'll keep my eyes open for cancellable rates to book in case a suitable package isn't available.
Budget wise I was looking at ideally keeping it under £2000 for flights & hotel - but also want to make sure we end up somewhere nice, so would go over for the right package.
As for keeping the secret - undecided how long i'll keep it. My wife knows i'll take her somewhere (had to let her know to book time off from work etc) - but will hopefully keep the destination secret until a week or so before. That should give her enough time to pack & decide what sights she wants to see.In need of a new signature! :rotfl:0 -

If there is something you specifically want to go to then booking in advance can be good. If you just want to see something then the 'TKTS' tickets booths offer discounted tickets on a wide range of shows. Have done it both ways.
I always pick up a copy of time out too as it will give full listings of whats on, you can make a list of what you might like tickets for and then see whats available.

Thanks for the link polskiegowLondynie
I checked it out, not sure if I was the only one confused (probably!), but it seems the booth in Times Square does not seem to sell discounted tickets at all?
"1. The Times Square Booth sells day-of-performance discount tickets. At Window #1 you may purchase full-price tickets to future performances for all shows and same-day full-price tickets to shows that aren't being discounted."
Or possibly, there is another window which sells same day discounted tickets..?
We are looking to book a show or two also, we don't particularly mind what we see. Well saying that, I know that I dont-but DH mind have certain objections.
Also looking to book tickets for a game on stubhub in December. We are hoping to pay for as many things as possible beforehand-especially game/theater tickets as they are usually one of the biggest one off expenses.
Does anyone know if you have to have tickets delivered for stubhub-or are they emailed?
Also any recommendations for a youngish couple in the UWS? we generally eat most types of food (no raw seafood) and generally like trying new things...saw an episode of csiNY last night and one of the main characters ate a live Peruvian centipede :eek::eek:
As you can probably tell, I am going NY crazy; still have so many csi episodes to watch. Maybe start Gossip Girl next, but it is UES heavy. Also will have to order the Sex and the City (tv) boxset!
I also googled The View restaurant,, someone posted earlier(sorry forgot your handle!) about it for Thanksgiving dinner and was wondering if anyone had eaten there for Christmas day? Have looked at the restaurant in the Chrysler building for Xmas lunch/dinner.
Thanks!GC Challenge 2018:

Hello Chrispy (great handle!),
Yup, lets all do the excited for NYC dance/jig/shuffle/wave together
I have just googled Xmas in NYC and have found two other strong contenders:
Ai Fiori - located in the Langham Place Hotel on Fifth and W37th St, second floor.
A Voce - located at Madison and E26th St. Great view of the Columbus circle
Choices choices! I think I will send the restaurants both emails to ask them about their Xmas menu and pick from there!
