  • Thanks M4rk,

I have knocked a lot of the options off then, and the others you have mentioned are either booked up or coming up about £1400+ which is a bit too much for us. The K&G looks gorgeous though!

I have managed to get the Cosmo down to £1120 direct but now jst working out if cheaper to book through a company and get some sort of cash back deal.

However, have you any experience of the duplex rooms? we have the option of a standard or a duplex room at same price. Duplex looks nice but not sure if ceiling height ok? We arent giants but would lke some head room ha x

There were loads of options to NYC, direct, in school summer holidays 2013 (I was monitoring closely from October 2012 to March 2013) for around £500. I would never, not ever, pay over £800pp, school holidays or not.

I'm 6'4 and I found the loft room cramped. It's ok if you're under 5'6. I personally would go for a standard room

Do you particularly want to stay in Times Square?

Not especially - but having never been to NY it seems to be a central good central place to be located. Open to suggestions from more experienced people than I.

  • Cheers Mark, think we are going to go with the Cosmopolitan, and get 8% cashback with quidco so every little helps :)

Now if I could just find a 10% off code I would be laughing

    Hi
Thats good to hear lol. Personally I wouldn't like to stay there (unless it was at the W hotel lol) - don't get me wrong its lovely and we often go out for dinner etc there and just take in the atmosphere, but its too busy for me.

Everyone will have a preference.. so i'll get in with mine first :)

I love staying near the Empire State Building - Just off 5th Avenue. Murray Hill. For me its the right balance of being close to what I need, but also not so busy and noisy.

Here are some other options to consider (some I have stayed at, others will look at for my next stay)

King and Grove - Murray Hill - Stayed here before it was nice

Andaz 5th Avenue - On the list for the next trip (not Murray Hill though). Complimentary non alcoholic mini bar and snacks)

Have a look out for Marmara Manhattan - Opening 5th Avenue apartment early next year. They have a sister hotel upper east side (a bit far out but it was lovely - apartment style)

Have a look at Affinia Hotels too

Also I love the Gansevoort Hotel

July will be hot and you may need some sanctuary in your hotel for a while lol

Thanks - i'll check those out.

Happy to wait to book - just need to be sure I can get the dates I need & don't want to rish flights etc selling out (not sure how likely that is!)

You'll be ok. Its still very early to book - options for 3/4 days in NYC are generally always available. What you can do is research the hotels and book cancellable rates for those just in case you do not opt for a package.

What is your ideal budget? for both flights and hotel together.

Edit - How will you be able to keep the surprise for so long! What a lovely surprise to have :)

Wow.. Ouch on both counts. Flights and Hotel.
It`s a little early to see good prices for hotels, but it is also in the school holidays so things will be more expensive. Weather could be really humid.

Personally, I would keep looking for flights and a better price for hotel.
Flights should be around £600ish at the most, paying £800 for a direct flight is crazy money, but if prices don`t change then maybe that is what the price is going to be for summer next year.

Thanks M4RKM - I'll keep the current reservation as a backup & hang off until closer to the time to make any decisions. Just want to ensure I don't wait so long that the dates I want sell out.
