As for the Wellington well its booked now & i was hoping they'd have somewhere we could store our bags on the last day while we cram a bit more in!

I've never found a hotel that won't. It still means you have to leave Manhattan by 5pm though.

How much did you pay per night btw?

  • Hello

I've just booked a holiday to New York for my girlfriends 18th birthday on March 26th. Does anyone have any idea what the weather is like at this time?

Also, this will be my third time going (lucky me!) but I'm not sure where would be the best places for her to visit? Our hotel is bang in the centre of Times Square so that's a given.

Any advice or help is much appreciated :)

    And in 2008.

Didn't stop us having a great time! But it did mean I had to take my wedding and engagement ring off, before they cut off circulation to my fingers.

That's a very good price. The Wellington isn't fancy at all, but location wise it's very good. You're a very short walk from Central Park, less than five minutes to Times Square and most Broadway Theatres and not far at all from many of the big stores of 5th avenue either. There are several subway stations nearby as well for heading to upper/lower Manhattan or over to Brooklyn.

I wouldn't eat around that area much as it's very close to Times Square so you get tourist prices and few New Yorkers would eat around there. Although as with any city wander a few blocks away from the main tourist footfall and you'll see the prices drop dramatically. Although I must admit I actually quiet like Virgil's BBQ, which is in the Times Square area. Walk over towards 9th avenue and you'll see less big chain restaurants and more small pizza places. You'd be shocked but two blocks from Times Square I walked passed a place doing two slices of pizza and a can of soda for $2.75!

TOTR and ESB are very similar experiences in my mind. The TOTR provides better views on Central Park and of course you get a great view of the ESB rather than standing on it. The only minus point to TOTR for me was the Metlife Building badly obstructs the view of the Chrysler Building from it.

As others have noted I'd drop Woodberry Common particularly when over for such a short time. Probably depends on age and style preference but I'd say the better NYC shopping is down towards Broadway in SOHO.

Thanks to those who answered my question about the New York Pass - it was good to get an answer from both sides! We're probably going to get the pass because we feel like it would be good value for us - rather than being a case of being 'slave to the pass' we made sure we picked out the attractions we wanted to see first and then looked to check if they were covered by the pass, rather than picking things specifically because the pass covers them.

I was wondering if there are any places to eat that people would really strongly recommend? The only place I'm determined to eat at is McGees, because I'm quite a big How I Met Your Mother fan, and I know there'll probably be loads of places that we walk past and just decide to go in - but it's always nice to have some backups based on recommendations that we can head for if we don't spot anything we fancy.

The areas we'll probably be around when we want to eat will probably be the Rockerfeller Center area after doing TOTR, probably something around Chinatown, and then we'll likely want something to eat after we get off one of the Circle Line cruises which depart from Pier 83.

Also does anybody have any recommendations for breakfast places? It's my first time in NYC but not my first time in the US and I absolutely love the super crispy bacon and eggs with pancakes for breakfast. I don't know why I can never get my bacon to go like that here! So we're probably going to want breakfast on a Sunday morning, somewhere along the south west side of Central Park, from 72nd St down towards Columbus Circle or along Central Park South. We're staying on W 72nd street and the guide book we've got has a walking tour of parts of Central Park which starts on the South side, so we'll be looping round to start there after breakfast.

June 2009, 101 degrees. Nearly finished with my OH in Bryant Park as I got really bad heat-rage.

I've been twice at that time of year. The weather could be anything!

Two days we wandered around in T Shirts (which was nice), one day very hard rain all day and colder.

The other occasion it was chilly the whole time (hoodies and jackets the whole time) with a day of absolutely torrential rain, all day. I wished I'd taken Wellies ;)
