Its my wifes 40th next year in July, and was looking at maybe taking her to NY. Is it really as bad then temperature/humidity wise as people say?

    Hi
We went this July - Have a look at the pictures, I think the shot of the city is amazing.. luckily i didn't get caught in it, but one of us did.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2175672/Storm-takes-Manhattan-Incredible-pictures-torrential-rain-thunder-HAIL-breaking-citys-triple-digit-heatwave.html

    That was day 2.
Day 1 was humid and overcast
Start of day 2 was over 100 degrees. Hot. Sweaty, didnt stop me catching a few rays in front of Macy's though whilst watching the world go by...!:D
Afternoon of day 2.. the storm...
Day 3 and 4 - Mixed weather mainly rain.. I felt a bit cold (I do prefer heat) cue bright coloured ponchos.. Not going to let rain stop me enjoying the city..!
Day 5 and 6 Gorgeous, sunny, not humid absolutley lovely weather:T

So a mixed bag, I would love to go back again when the weather is sunny, its lovely to chill out and maybe spot a celebrity or 3! :)

The weather didnt spoil the trip at all. What I would advise is pack a jumper/cardigan and waterproof shoes just incase of mixed weather.

    Enjoy

Wow that looks amazing i'd book in a second to witness something like that....

Can i ask what you paid for flights? I was looking last week and for my dates they were around the 470 mark with 1 stop off and 660 direct but seem to have jumped up a couple of hundred since then.

    Hello

I've just booked a holiday to New York for my girlfriends 18th birthday on March 26th. Does anyone have any idea what the weather is like at this time?

Also, this will be my third time going (lucky me!) but I'm not sure where would be the best places for her to visit? Our hotel is bang in the centre of Times Square so that's a given.

Any advice or help is much appreciated :)

Tiffany's? That's where I went on my 40th. I also love Century 21 - amazing bargains on high end designer clothing but can be a bit chaotic, its very busy.

I've been in Feb - snow then almost T-shirt weather, November - freezing cold all week, April - warm and sunny, October - pouring rain then sunny and warm.
In March you could get a mix of all the above!

Also does anybody have any recommendations for breakfast places? It's my first time in NYC but not my first time in the US and I absolutely love the super crispy bacon and eggs with pancakes for breakfast. I don't know why I can never get my bacon to go like that here! So we're probably going to want breakfast on a Sunday morning, somewhere along the south west side of Central Park, from 72nd St down towards Columbus Circle or along Central Park South. We're staying on W 72nd street and the guide book we've got has a walking tour of parts of Central Park which starts on the South side, so we'll be looping round to start there after breakfast.

I absolutely loved Ellen's Stardust Diner - the servers all sing and dance - my O/H hated it. They do ask for tips after each song.

For breakfast it has to be Penelope in Murray Hill, its a great local place and does get busy but worth the wait - my favourite NYC breakfast/brunch spot. It might be a little far from you but wherever I've stayed I've always gone back there.

For great burgers go to Jackson Hole - typically large portions but well priced for NYC

I've been twice at that time of year. The weather could be anything!

Two days we wandered around in T Shirts (which was nice), one day very hard rain all day and colder.

The other occasion it was chilly the whole time (hoodies and jackets the whole time) with a day of absolutely torrential rain, all day. I wished I'd taken Wellies ;)

Oh great, I had a feeling that I'd struggle for pack as I usually go in July when its hot! Im not sure what to pack now! I don't really mind if its either hot or cold but when it rains.. it sort of puts a downer on it! hopefully it doesnt!

Yeah I have a feeling she'd love Tiffanys but I also have a feeling that I'll be spending alot just walking into the shop! Yeah I've heard about Century 21, I tried to find it last time I went but I couldn't for whatever reason! It's a hidden gem, either that or im blind as a bat! Hopefully I'll find it this time providing the weathers okay!

Any ideas on what to pack? Wellies wont be neccesary will they? Since they take up quite a bit of space!

if you visit the site of the world trade centre you cant fail to miss century 21.

The first time we went there we thought it was amazing and got some bargains however on returning there another 4 times on different trips to NY we were seriously under whelmed by it.

Seriously?! I've been to WTC every time I've visited New York, how on earth have I missed it?

Is it the equivalent of our TK Maxx or is it really good designer bargains?

Yeah, I've picked up good bargains once or twice, but then other times I've had absolutely nothing. It really is hit and miss.

No, they have TJ Maxx the original and then Century 21 is similar but so much bigger and better. They also used to have Daffy's and Filene's Basement but they've closed recently.

Century 21 is enormous with both clothing and shoes - American and European designers. If you just go in for underwear and socks you get high end for supermarket prices. O/H got 5 shirts for work at around $20 each and a suit for $80. I got a couple of tops and dresses - we came back on Sunday.

Its not as erratic as TKMaxx. The clothing is better organised but you still need to know what you want. Its not easy to just browse but if you're looking for something for a special occasion or work wear then you can save a lot. As you get to the World Trade Centre site its on the left! Cordlandt Street I think.

Yes Tiffany's is expensive but you can get a bracelet quite reasonably priced - check on the website to get an idea of prices so you don't get blindsided as nothing is priced! However even if you can't afford anything, its still fun to go see the jewellery.

I wouldn't take wellies but I would recommend comfortable walking shoes or trainers. You will do a lot of walking!

If it rains there will be umbrella sellers on every corner! Usually though you can find something to do indoors until it stops or just do what the New Yorkers do and ignore it!
