Surely there's enough room for two pub crawls?0
-
Hi Knob Jockey.
Yes, you are right, I am another New York newbie and I am also rather Dorky.
We didn't book to stay in the Bronx in the end. I did a bit of research and I realised that it would be like staying near the Dartford Tunnel to go and see a West End show.0 -

Agreed.
But if you go on mine(*) you'll experience an eclectic mix of bars from the classic to the plain weird featuring the very best in independent breweries that America can offer.
In fact I'll let you into a secret ... trying to manage just a pint in each I only got to Number 8 on account of tarrying too long in Burp Castle which really is a very unusual bar.
I had to finish the other two off the next day while attempt to go back on the route in what is known as the Reverse Nobjocki Swallow.
Anyway, I'd like to hear from anyone who manages the full 10 bars as I'm thinking of coming up with a commemorative T-shirt.
Perhaps in the spirit of boozydom my original post might be included in the New York Sticky along with anyone else who comes up with an alternative 10 Bar crawl and we can watch the whole thing snowball.
So much better than stale jokes about people's username don't you think ?

(*) The Original MSE 10 Bar Manhattan Crawl :beer:0 -
Amazing coincidence isn't it.
A walking tour of exactly 10 bars in Manhattan.
Why not 5, or 7, or even 11 ?
Yes, that is exactly what it is, a coincidence. I just went through my head of various pubs I'd visited, because people on this thread asked. But calm down petal - imitation is the best form of flattery.
My bars are much better by the way - who on earth goes all the way to New York to drink in a " British " pub. :rotfl:
So, your 7 pubs are better? who goes all the way to NYC to drink in a british pub you ask? Well, as it happens, there is a story to that. Each March I head out to NYC for my birthday, and meet up with one of my old friends, who now lives and works out in the US. Each year, I take some monster munch in my suitcase, and if I have room, a few cans of John Smiths as well. Him and his wife come up to NYC to meet up with myself, we end up getting drunk, and as their heading off home they pick up some "british food" that he still likes from myers of keswick,
Thing is with all the great american beer you can get, my mate still gets kinda homesick for UK beers, who wouldn't when you lived there for a good 25 years of your life, and drank beers for the latter few. So, the british pub on the list was there just because it was somewhere I visited on my trip in March, we went in there, had a laugh at how crap it was, and a bottle of Newcastle Brown, like we used to drink back at University in the North East of England. I really have no idea what the **** has it to do with you to be honest, and why you're so bitter, and agressive about it. Maybe I should have pub the Red Lion on there as well to make it 11, and you could rip the !!!! more, as there are MORE british pubs on there, another pub where people can watch british sport.
I was going to add The Gingerman on the crawl, but it was midtown. I think there is more selection of draught beer than at Burp Castle, which is a great pub i've been to many times, as is Hi-Fi just nearby. And just in case you didn't know, despite appearances, the beer at Heartland Union Square is not brewed in the back but comes from Brooklyn.
Never said it was brewed there, I just said it was a microbrewery, which it is.
Now, what I really want to know, is why the comment about someone wanting to stay in the Bronx? Surely if you're going to question something it would be someone staying in New Jersey?
Chill out and help people if you're going to stay here, and write more guides if you want, just quit being a bit of a "nob". Yeah, I had to get it in there!

P.S - Peculiar Pub is classed as a british pub, as it's named after Theakstons Old Peculiar.0 -

As I said, you're welcome to use my crawl ( as well as all the drink-related websites I included ) in the sticky - if your ego will allow it .0 -
Your observation skills are obviously lacking.
You're a bigger man than I would have been!
But then again, a thread with 400 views against a thread with the best part of 200,000. I guess you needn't be too worried!
Sorry for opening up this can of worms M4RKM. I appreciate your help though."The most desirable trait of the internet is the ability to attribute quotes to anyone."

You can get up off your knees now - it's not a pretty sight.0 -
