£1100 isnt massive far from it and the kids are off school too so flights are more expensive.Price flights direct from airlines try fly . com and flightchecker too look on expedia or lastminutetravel type sites / hotel connexions opedo more . See what deals your Local travel agents has. Get hotel opinions from tripadvisor hoteltruth web sites etc. If you get 3 nights in a ok hotel in NYC your doing well 4/5 nights in Queens Jersey Brooklyn etc could be the answer

Erm. £1100 is fine for 4 nights in NYC in Feb.. ;) Just gotta know how to book, Jersey isn't NYC btw.. no one asked for a holiday to Jersey ;)

Ooh, i'm on form today with the jokes and sarcasm eh?!

    Hi

Looking for a bit of advise. Me and hubby have had a tough week(lost our baby) and decieded that need get away for a break. Going to go to new york as like sightseeing etc. Normally I look for ages and research but not got much time as want to book. Looking at going away end March or into April. Cant really go before then as have consultants appts etc in 6 weeks time and want to get that all done before going. As bit rushed dont have much money saved up. So not looking to spend a fortune. Maybe around £600 ish each.
I have saw Marriott Lincoln Harbour in NJ for just over £500 or over £600 with better flight times with Aer LIngus. (are they an okay airline have never flown with them). Also saw the Cosmopolitan which I have saw mentioned in this thread for about same price.
Plan is we will get up early and sightsee during the day, maybe go back hotel for nap and get changed and go out at night for dinner and couple drinks and then back to hotel.
Not sure of areas etc in New York but looking for somewhere that can eat at night without wandering too far from hotel. We are normally foodies but to be honest this time think we would probably be happier going a bit more casual and relaxed so area with maybe few steakhouses, that kind thing.
So any suggestions for Hotels / Areas would be great. Also best deals I have seen have been on Expedia, any other good sites.
Lastly are you best to buy a Sightseeing pass (we bought one of these in London and loved it) and if so are you best to buy here or wait till you get there.
    Thanks a lot

I really wouldn't stay in NJ, as there really isn't much around the hotels, as you're flexible on the dates, you should be able to get something and stay in Long Island City in Queens, which is at least in New York City.

I know you've said you want something to eat nearby to the hotel, but NYC is huge, and you'll really limit yourself by doing that, a 10 minute walk covers a few blocks, but a 10 minute subway ride will cover a few miles, it is that easy to navigate.

1st - 5th April - flights are £389 with a change on the way out, leaving £442 left for your hotel. That's about $142 per night before tax at todays exchange rate.

Looking for hotels, you have a few near subway stops in LIC, and The Verve hotel is coming in at $139 a night, ($656.55 for the stay inc taxes, which is £423) or the Country Inn Suites is $109 a night which is $514.31 or £331 for the stay,

If you went with the cheaper option, your overall holiday is £1109

Hope that helps, NYC is a great city for foodies, and if you stay in LIC, you'll be in Manhattan every night dining on the wonderful foods they have.. I'm getting hungry just typing the word food... :)

Just noticed what looks like a pretty good deal on Travelzoo for the Hotel Mela described as a 4* boutique hotel in midtown (close to Times Square).

Deal is 40% off when quoting promo code 'TZOO' and the deal continues til 31 May (most offers I've seen end 31 March). Rates per night are (inc tax):
    • £102 ($163) ... Thu-Mon until 14 March
    • £124 ($197) ... Thu-Mon 15 March-31 May
    • Add £13 ($20) per night to stay on aTuesday or Wednesday
    Blackout dates: 17-24 February; 17-19, 29-31 March; 18-23 April

Hotel gets good Tripadvisor reviews (4/5 stars)

Doesn't work for me as I'm looking for a suite or aparthotel for 3 adults but they had availability for my travel dates 28/4 - 2/5 and if there only been 2 of us I'd have gone for it.

Thought I'd post in case it helps anyone else out

Sit down, Look at where you WANT to visit, and price them up. Look for discounts and bundle tickets. Then find out how much that cost, and you'll have your answer as to whether the pass is worth it. The pass on ebay sounds second hand already.

Just to let everyone know here, I do frequent TripAdvisor to help out there with people organising holidays, so if posting there, and you've had some help from me here, you can use my name, because I'm the same person.. *grins*
