Westin is where we stayed in 2007 great hotel in the middle of the middle . BB Kings Blues bar and grill is below you as part of the e-walks complex . Good enough food. See whats on there while you stay too (google bb kings new york.) we had two rooms on floor 45th floor . Stunning view stunning hotel . Shulas Steakhouse is in the Westin serves great steaks my top in USA (tried a fair few)Cocktail bar in the westin is cool but very pricey. Gym at the westin too,

Heading to New York as part of our honeymoon on May 3rd which is also wifey to be's 30th birthday. Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant to take her?
I don't know if you were planning to take her the same night you arrive, or if this is also the first night of your honeymoon, but you might want to think about the logistics. I know that by the end of our wedding day I was exhausted just from smiling, and very glad to be booked into a nearby classy hotel rather than driving to our honeymoon cottage - probably you are doing something similar.

perhaps more relevant is that by the time we'd got up at crack of dawn, been driven to Gatwick, flown to NY and checked into our hotel, it was all I could do to keep my eyes open. the boys, of course, were ravenous, so we had to head out. but a 'nice' restaurant would have been wasted on me!

There are like 20,000 restaurants in New York City. Some people like Virgils BBQ in Times Square, I much prefer Fette Sau in Brooklyn, and I have tried both.

I'd personally look at menupages.com and find a list of restaurants that you like. To discount a restaurant because of one starter of Foie Gras, seems a bit over the top, but I'm sure there will be a place in NYC that doesn't serve that, and has no cheese on the menu, no hang on, cheese is always on the menu as it rocks! ;)

Seriously though, be a bit more specific, and a give me a budget, I'm sure I can point you in the direction of a great restaurant that will hit the mark

  • Hey,

Firstly thank you to everyone who has wrote about their experiences in New York and given all their advice - it is really helpful and really much appreciated.

Right - now I need some help please!

My boyfriend and I are going to New York (for the first time) on April 22nd and return April 29th (£366 through Iceland Express plus £15.65 CB through Topcashback if anyone was interested) and we're finding it hard to find somewhere to stay within our budget. I've found some very nice ones that are extremely expressive!

We have very little demands apart from the following: -
    • Close to the subway (we managed the metro in Japan - I think we'll be ok!)
    • No dormitory style rooms
    • No bed bugs!
I found this place http://www.brooklynbedandbreakfast.net/ and it's £508 (not including taxes I don't think) through Venere though I have looking at renting an apartment (via Tripadvisor) and one that is really nice has come in at $800 for the week (including all taxes and fees)

If anyone can give me any insight - I would be grateful. I've been looking and reading reviews and my head is spinning ala Martin! :money:

    Thanks in advance

Hope its ok! After much consideration, I decided I really would only be sleeping there so wasnt too bothered as long as it was clean and in a good area.

    Good luck

While some apartment rentals are illegal in New York City (including ones advertised on trip advisor) this Bed & Breakfast is ok, because the owners are on site. However, unhosted apartment rentals are such a grey area, I personally wouldn't even tempt fate trying to rent one, the worst that can happen (even though it is illegal) is you get kicked out of the room, lose all your money, and then have to try find somewhere to stay.

However, NYC has plenty of legal accommodations, which will fit all price points. You haven't stated your budget, but I'll assume you're looking for under $115 a night including taxes. I'm afraid to say this (at fear of being accused of being arrogant, blah blah), but it is a very low budget, and you won't get Manhattan for that price, especially over the easter period, which is when tourism picks up the pace in NYC.

The advice of the La Quinta in Long Island City, Queen is a good one, and you can add in The Verve, and the Country Inn Suites to the mix, as they're all in a similar area.

If you could increase your budget then you would have much more choice, however, booking something that is fully cancellable would be good, because then you can keep an eye on places like travelzoo to give you better hotel deals nearer to the time.

We get married on the Sunday & fly out on the Tuesday morning, I think pure adrenaline will see us through. Think the plan is to get to the hotel & have a sleep for an hour or two & then make our way out.

M4RKM - I'm not discounting a restaurant just because of the foie gras, normally if that's on the menu then the rest of it is posh food I wouldn't like. No budget, as I said it's wifey to be's 30th & the 1st night of our honeymoon so if I can't spoil her then there's something wrong! I guess i'd be looking at a decent grill of some sort or posh burger.

Now it's just the way I am but can anyone think of something romantic I can do as a suprise?

Thanks for all the help! Just a little bit excited...:)
