We stayed at Courtyard Meadowlands a few weeks ago, and getting the bus into and back from Manhattan was really easy.
Just remember that the bus leaves Port Authority from a different bay number after 10pm.
Hope you have a great time.0 -

Hi
We have flights booked for next September and are now looking to book our hotel for our 3rd trip to NY and ust wanted to know if anyone has stayed in Queens in general and specificaly at the Country Inn & Suites by Carlson. I know there probably is not much to see and do around there but are just looking for a nice comfortable place to sleep that is cheap, it seems to have good reviews on Expedia and is only 4 stops from Times Sq.
Thanks0 -

I have visited NYC before and posted here last year so won't bore everyone, just let you know of new things I did;
Flew with Delta from Man - small plane (seats were 3 & 3) with overhead TVS going out (crap) and backseat ones coming back (thank God).
Stayed at Ace Hotel - 29th & Broaday, not the most happening area (yet) and not the cheapest option, but fantastic hotel (see tripadvisor for review under Maryios).
Bars - 520 - rooftop open air bar couple of blocks from ESB - amazing views at night and worth the $12 cocktail prices - don't worry about being chilly - just grab a dressing gown and blanket from the racks!
Other end of spectrum - Grasroots Tavern in East Village - pints at $2 between 4-8 - rough, scummy bar but brilliant!
Diner - Starlight Diner - great authentic NY brekkie for under $5 (toast, eggs, home fries, coffee and juice)
Broadway Show - bought tickets at TKTS for matinee performance of Promises, Promises - fantastic and pleased we chose it as it is not on show in UK.
Music clubs - visited Club Wha? in Greenwich on Wed night to see the house band - no cover but 2 drinks minimum. Drinks not cheap ($5 a bottle of beer) but free to get in so can't complain. Bad were fantastic, played 3 sets (9.30 - 2am) and food served all night - massive portions of nachos and falafel.
Food - didnt really do any restaurants or bars for food this time and used pizza takeout and delis for build your own salad bars - loads of choice and super tasty. Did visit Grimaldis pizza parlour under Brooklyn Bridge - highly recommended for thin, crispy pizza and great atmos - we went at 3pm on a Thursday and still had to wait for a table (only 5 mins though)
Have a great time all you guys visiting soon!
PS - Places to avoid - tried to get into PDT bar - waitress took one look at me in my scruffs and it was a 'no' - stuck up or what!!0 -
Hello and welcome, long time lurker, first time poster.
OMFG, I promised my wife we would go to New York when we married in 2007 but one baby later only just getting round to do it and didn't realise it would be so daunting. Don't want to repeat the mistake of others and trying to absorb all this info before I ask a daft question.
Travelling in Jan, Manchester to JFK direct, £400 eachcan't find better...
But my question is...
It looks like we'll be in NY for Martin Luther King Day in Jan. I believe there's a parade, is it worth seeing? Also, is it like a UK bank holiday and we need to be careful which attractions/shop will be open?
Any other MLK day recommendations?I spend less than I earn and if I can't afford it I don't buy it. I'm guessing that makes me a money saver.0 -
Hi, I would love to go to NY with my GF next year, perhaps around March or April.
Can someone give me a ball park figure about how much it should cost for a four or five day break? We would have to fly from Aberdeen to London, then onto NY.
From quickly searching I have it that it would be around £800 or £900 each for flight and hotel?
How expensive is the city - how much spending money would I need to take for eating out, sight seeing etc.?0
