What the heck are you on about? Was that supposed to mean something? Did you miss some punctuation?

Troll or not, the cotton bud stuff is advice I've been given before. Calm down, love.

Don't love me thank you, rolls eyes ;)

Don't tell people to shut up and imply they have sexual fetishes about cats when they're just trying to answer a simple query, then.

Are the posts on this thread for real?? I thought this was a pet owners board, not the local nursery!

  • Just popping on to say that KVet definitely is a vet (and a very good one at that!) who has advised me with my own animals, I'd trust her judgement implicitly.

Also, the cotton bud trick works. I'd advise putting a wee bit of vaseline on it first for comfort, but we resorted to it with our cat and her relief was immediate.

Try !!!!!!!g. Get close and personal with your cat + one choice cotton bud. Cats are stimulated ovulators so "sstimulating" her will get her out of heat. Unsurprisingly many cat owners are very unwilling to do this!

Vet or not, it's the flippant way of expressing it that I personally find unnecessarily offensive. Whatever the word that got bleeped out was I find that pretty tasteless in this context. Frankly, I don't think I'd pay much attention to the advice of someone who actually suggested that I should engage in sexual activities with my animal. It was probably meant to be funny - not my kind of humour, sorry. This may well be recommended practice but no need to be so crude about it. If this is how she puts the suggestion to the owners of her real-life patients I'm not surprised that she finds that few of them take her up on it :rolleyes icon

(And I'm honestly gobsmacked that an actual vet would be so childish about this - more like something I'd expect from a 12-year-old boy, not somebody who presumably encounters this situation regularly in their professional life, but whatever floats your boat I guess!)

Edited to add, for clarification: I found Blottedcopybook's post by contrast down to earth and factual - that doesn't leave me with the bad taste that the first post did.

What do any of these tit for tat and personal attack posts have to do with the original question?

Can't we all just be nice to each other?

If you suspect that someone is a troll or that they have made potentially forum rule breaking posts ignore their post and report them. Simples!

Also can we all observe the rule that medical advice is not allowed on this forum, vet or not.

You're right; sorry :o (she did start it though, Miss!).

Sorry OP. I got a bit cross at good advice being ridiculed.

Excuse me? The word I used is not tasteless or rude at all! It is actualy the recognised way of calling the method I described above and is what I was taught it was called at Vet School. Why would I have said it in humour? It is a well known and useful technique that many breeders use. If you took it that way then that is your problem and not mine!

Plus I hardly think it is sexual activities with your animal - agin your problem if you think of is as that? What about the thousands of people who regularly "help" matings between a bull and cow, stallion and mare, dog and !!!!!? Would you find the fact that they grab the penis of the male animal and help to guide it into the female animal "engaging in sexual activities" with that particular animal? I think not.

    Ranty rant over.
