Freeview signal - Help Please

Options
Hello

We have recently purchased a Freeview ready TV, I have plugged it in today and scanned the channels as per instructions, the signal is terrible. We were using a set top box previously which worked fine and the signal was perfect.

I am confused, why does the set top box have perfect signal but the freeview ready TV does not???

Thanks in advance to anyone who can enlighten me!

From what you have said either the TV is faulty or your cabling has been screwed up somehow. If a given aerial works with a set top box it should work with the inbuilt freeview tuner in a TV.

As a quick test try using the new TV with the old set top box and scart lead - that should prove whether or not your aerial lead is messed up.
  • Thank you for the reply.
What do you mean by aerial cable messed up? In the loft?
Unpacked TV today, unplugged Freeview and swapped over straight away, could I have done something to the cable?

Check the aerial connection that plugs into your TV/freeview, just check it is not loose.
  • Ok, I have checked all cable connections and all ok. I have plugged the Freeview into the TV and the signal is perfect through the set top box. Does this mean the TV is faulty?

Checked all freeview settings for the tv.

What make & model is it?
  • hiya,
are you actually using freeview with a skysat card? i ask this because i had the same problem with my freeview tv. i didnt know or understand but my channels are provided by the sky card not freeview, so i had to plug my old box into my new tv and all is well.

in march my area goes digital and i may be able to unplug the box
  • Checked all Freeveiw settings, they all seem fine. The tv is Foehn & Hirsch FH-22LMG
  • Skycat card? No just Freeview through the tv, or set top box. Charlysez, would like to thank you for your post but you have no thanks button???

Are you using a proper rooftop aerial? Set top or loft aerials do not often give a strong enough digital signal.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Macman - we have roof top aerial.
