Help! Sad kitty at my door :(

  • Welll.. Pumpkin is looking stressed, Guinness is nowhere to be found.. and the OH is beginning to think it's going too be too much for us. Perhaps it would be better to let CP find him a nice home :(
  • Guinness didn't come back at all last night, I spent an hour wandering around the neighbourhood looking.. and still no sign of him this morning :(:(:(:(:( it was a full moon I guess, and he ate all the food left for Dr G before going.. but still though, will be spending the whole day worrying about him now *sob* really missing my lil guy

he does stay out all night sometimes, and rolls up the next day bleary eyed, like "hey dudes, what'd i miss?" stresses me out every time though... Might be time to try a collar on him again, we're thinking he gets locked in next door, but the old bat never hears him.

Gonzo's happy as larry, let out for the day. But seriously considering calling in the experts, it's starting to get stressful for all concerned :(
  • If it's at all possible to keep the cats in separate parts of your home then that is what I would do. Then, Mr G has his food and a sheltered spot to kip in and your other cats may not feel that their entire territory has been invaded. When Guinness strolls back, as I'm sure he will, maybe it might be best to ensure Mr G has food and shelter outside and perhaps only allow him into the kitchen when your cats are elsewhere in the house with a closed door between them. That your cat would tolerate a stranger eating from the same bowl I find very encouraging and Guinness' absence may not be connected to Mr G at all.

It all depends on what you want to happen long-term but I don't think you've exhausted all avenues of finding his original home yet so any decision about the living arrangements may not be permanent in any case.

Thanks B&T, much needed sanity check :D you're right, it's not the time to think of rehoming, although Guinness wishes it was.
He actually went out last night before Da Gonz turned up, so wouldn't have been aware there was a stranger in the house. He's just a bit deranged in himself, as my mom would say. Just wish I was at home to go find him though..

OH is probably more worried than me about it, he doesn't like seeing Pumpkin upset, kinda giving up already. Men.. ;)

In other news, we did see a poster about a missing cat.. but it was for a grey tabby called Jelly. Poor Jelly, I hope he turns up on our doorstep too :)

I totally agree with picklepick- if they are all feeling a bit stressed try Feliway. I know it's a little pricey but worked wonders for Mittens (our teeny terror :rotfl:) He hadn't been treated very well when he was a kitten and was terrified of everything- he lived under the bed for 2 weeks!!! The vet recommended Feliway to settle him and now he's even brave enough to have a sniff at guests that visit :T
We now have one very happy and stress-free kitty who is totally loved and spoiled.
Hope all goes well with Mr. G, Pumpkin and Guinness. XX
Every time life knocks me down, I just stay on the ground for a bit and look up at the sky for a while. Eventually I get up and have a cup of tea.

Whenever I see Feliway mentioned on this site I always drop by and agree with how great it is! we put it near the cats food bowl and the bedroom and he's now a lovely cat. Although we haven't replaced them recently so I would say invest wisely and only use them when the cat seems stressed?

    Is Guinness back yet OP?
Whilst it's true that cats are very territorial, most stories I have heard they end up getting along with one another in the end.

They do, (give them time) found Mr Mouse at the door today trying to get cat no 6 to come into the house (oh lawd if that had been me)!!
  • Another thumbs up for Feliway here....gave me a new cat ( well I had her since a kitten 15 years ago but she was scared of EVERYTHING )
    Seriously...
  • ... god, how do i say this.

i'm so sorry to report guys.... that Guinness didn't come home last night.. we got a call this evening.. to tell us that he was run over this morning........

i don't really know what else i can add to that, obviously we are completely and totally devastated. hopefully he is in a happy place now and we miss him so much, the house seems empty without his happy little face at the door..
