I work in customer service and if people feel hard done by for some reason I agree they have the right to complain...BUT when people come on the phone to complain and are irrate and shouty from the start it takes 3 times as long to sort out, through all the jumbled up storys and going off the point and generally looking for an arguement and trying to find a bad attitude off the CS rep! Its a lot quicker and easier to sort out when speaking to a calmer more patient person and much more of a pleasure.

What most people forget is that we are just doing our jobs a long with company guidelines, and in some cases we prob agree with the customer. :)

Then again I have heard some pretty bad calls from CS reps though in companys I have worked in and had to pick up the pieces as well being a supervisor lol

I learned early on in my experience in this area, that you will be considered polite and helpful only if you are able to do precisely what the customer wants. If you can't oblige then you are considered rude and unhelpful, however much you have tried to help.

You think its rude because she has forwarned you not to make it a regular occurence, she bent the rules and you think she is being rude. Would it of been better if she said "No problem would like a cup of tea and biscuit with that!!"

There are some occasions where if staff have helped, they think its then their god given right to be rude, example i asked in a library if i could have extra time on the computers, she said "Yes, but only coz theres nobody here, if there were people here i wouldnt let you, i dont always do this i just do this time only not in future" its pretty miserable of her to talk this way, why does she not just say yes.
    :(

I suspect in this case she feels the need to make it clear that she's not setting a precedent. Someone else listening (or you yourself) who wants a time extension in the future may feel aggrieved if she says no because people are waiting. I think you are being over sensitive, (but that's without hearing the tone and manner in which it was said.)

I'm never rude to call centre agents.

    Heres why.

    1. They have my address and other details. :rotfl:

God knows what a really Peed off agent could do with them.
    lol, too right :D

two of my kids have temped at call centres, my son's now doing a film & media degree & THIS is one of the student films they made, WARNING there is a bit of f'ing & blinding

I hope it's not taken from real life  ... he didn't get sacked & isn't in jail so I'm guessing it's fantasy :o

I've known disgruntled call centre agents write customers phone numbers on the doors of motorway service station toilets.:D

Having worked in a call centre in the past, I always try to be polite to the agents. However, when I get through to call centres in Timbuktu who can't understand my accent (yes I have a broad scots accent but also speak very properly on the phone or when drunk) or if I can't understand their accent.... well I lose the rag a lot quicker. I think we are all guilty of speaking louder when people don't understand us.

  • I've worked in call centres and customer service and will go out of my way to help the nice customers, or those who have a reason for coming on being angry, annoyed, ie bad service, etc..

But the people who shout and be rude just because they can are the ones that will force me to do the bare minimum to help. Mainly because I do not want them to think that shouting and yelling will get them anywhere. I wouldn't lower myself to be rude back, but I'm not my usual chirpy self with them.

When I did my call centre stint I would be extra nice to those that were rude, I think it annoyed them more thanking them for everything they said. As for helping them, no one is going to help anyone if you just yell and scream at them, thankfully phone lines aren't that reliable and would often just go dead as if by magic..................
