How did your mate connect his computer to your network? How is yours connected? Were the same ethernet cables used?

TICK these and click to FIX them ~
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [YSearchProtection] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Search Protection\SearchProtection.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O16 - DPF: {BF6BBE9A-0656-4598-A0CD-32DAC03959B5} (Image Uploader 3.0 Control) - http://213.175.242.21/wpp/boots/app/opcuploader.cab
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03) -

    Uninstall the YAHOO toolbar

    Please run COMBOFIX
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
    Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be)

If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download

    download 5094 kbps
    Upload 356
    Ping 172ms

I am usually wireless so did both tests wirelessly first and then did both tests again using same yellow ethernet cable - minimal difference in results.

The speeds are fine but what speedtester did you use? That 173ms ping is long enough for it to have been an American one (or maybe you were on WiFi).

ok - maybe the watchdog speed tester wasnt the best to be using ??

How much more RAM would I need have 480 at minute - and can I get an external plug in without having to take my pc apart or rather get someone to do it for me.

As mentioned above, the 'ping' rate (how quickly the signal reacts) is VERY poor

Anyways ~ your best bet is goto CRUCIAL.COM and use their tool to find out what you need etc

Post back here and someone will probably point you towards a nice cheap source (Or use crucial as theyre guaranteed to replace if any problems)

Then (assuming you have a desktop computer) all it requires is taking the side off and unplugging the old RAM and plugging in the new (Can only fit one way round, you cant go wrong)

I suppose it could have been the speedtester but I thought we established early on that your friend got 5Mbps at around the time you got sub 1Mbps and that your speed was pretty consistent across several tests.

I'm no malware expert but I'd say your current improvement is probably down to the stirling efforts of aliEnRIK getting your machine cleaned up.

On the memory front - yes 512MB isn't ideal but as you are running XP it isn't the end of the world either. Extra will give you headroom for running more tasks at once and is worth having as memory is cheap but don't expect miracles.
