Gemmzie, do you have any tesco clubcard points you can use to pay the OU fees?
Spud, my advice is don't interfere, let her choose her own subjects. For my options it wasn't too bad, but my dad wouldn't let me do business studies as the technology option, because it was 'pointless' and a 'stupid easy option' and 'everyone hates stuck up business studies graduates with loads of theory and no experience'. I ended up having to drop out of D&T altogether! For A levels though it was a nightmare. I wanted to do sciences, my mum wanted me to do languages, dad wanted me to do politics. I did GCSE maths early and only got a C, my mum's response was 'good, now we just need you to fail science and you'll have to do languages'. There was soooo much tension about it, and I've never forgotten how much it hurt when mum said that to me. If you let her make her own decisions, at least she can't turn it back on you in arguments and things!
At the end of the day, these options mean very little, all that matters are the grades, whether she passes or not, apart from maths and English the actual subject name doesn't really matter. Even if she makes a 'mistake' in what A levels or degree to do, she's got her whole lifetime to change it. Her life isn't going to be ruined by choosing history instead of RE, or whatever (just chose those subjects cos it's the choice I made!). I'd say she should just do whatever she's best at, because it's the results that'll matter at GCSE, not the subjects. Hope that wasn't too ranty.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
I'm not bothering with the heating, it's starting to die again so I need to save it for when it gets really cold if it's going to last the winter. I've had to put the lights on though, I can't believe it's got so dark at 2pm!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

unless you have earnt over £1500 a month, i can't see that you would have to repay it yet.
That's for normal repayments. Seems to be different if it's an overpaymentGemmzie, do you have any tesco clubcard points you can use to pay the OU fees?

Actually Spud I agree with Ames-My parents pushed me into the local 'collegiate' high school because it was where the 'clever' kids went. I hated it with a passion and changed schools after a year. Then, I was convinced to go to University and take English because a) I had the grades and because b) what good is a drama degree? Well, sod the lot of it! I am doing jack s**t with my degree but did what was expected of me...let her decide. She is clever and at her age, she has lots of time to change her mind! xEmpty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0

Thanks girls. The trouble is she doesnt know what to choose. I havent a problem with the 2 subjects she has chosen, but she's really struggling to pick 2 more, plus her 3 reserves. If I leave her to it, she wont bloomin choose anything. The form has to be in by Friday :eek:Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

@ Spud - How many GCSEs can she take? I think I took either 9 or 11 (can't remember) so couldn't she take Business Studies and History? Maybe you could divide it up. You make a list of 'key' subjects that she has to take and she picks the rest. Would that work?

She has 4 optional subjects, with 3 reserves in case they cant fit her first choices into the timetable or the course is under-subscribed.
