Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 25th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Todays meals are bran flakes and saltanas for breakfast; hummus on HM french bread for lunch (trying new recipe) and dinner will be HM egg and bacon pie and some salad. We won't manage a NSD day today as we need some tomatoes and potatoes.
My OH sat and had one of those budgeting/shopping/household type discussions yesterday. We were doing really well til we discussed OH's impulse buying which we couldn't agree on. I found myself asking him to stop being difficult at one point to which he replied "I am not being difficult, I am being argumentative", which made us both laugh.
He then helped me start a spreadsheet for the kitchen inventory and I have been having fun collating and updating. The paper lists we had were getting tatty but I didn't know how to use Microsoft Excel til he showed me. I am a bit of a luddite.
Anyway, BM and WM are on so that is good. I hope everyones week starts well, and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love, light and
for all.

Had an odd nights sleep. Been awake once already.. but my body is so used to me waking around this time that despite not setting an alarm, here I am! I shall go back to bed if Tris' sister doesn't log on however.
SunnyGirl has internet problems but hopes to be back tomorrow. She sends her love!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

morning Diva and all who follow!
I just popped on before work to check if my wages have gone in and thankfully they have:j:D
Diva - the panto was good - lots of youngsters in it but it did go on a bit too long - nearly 3 hours!
plans today are - work for 10 hours ! have taken quorn cottage pie from the freezer and some veggies in cheese sauce for tea. The house needs a clean but that will wait till tomorrow. The bed also needs changing but might do that tonight I think.
I'll catch up with you all tonight. (((hugs))) to those who need then.
Have a good day all xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning all
Didn't get on here yesterday as OH was helping a friend with some work, so had a very productive day cleaning and de-cluttering, without his help (I'm sure you know what I mean!)
Found out that the hoover now doesn't work. Tried "servicing" it, which usually helps, but to no avail. When OH came home told him to which he then told me he had been using it to clean out the chimney  So, less than one month into the new year and a microwave and hoover down. I wonder what the third thing will be?
Meanmarie - my DH is the same when it comes to spending money on himself. I managed to convince him he needed new boots last week. Even got to the shop and found a pair he liked, tried them on, all well and good, then told the assistant he'd think about it!!
Glad to see the meet on Saturday went well. Good to see the photo and put some faces to names.
(((Hugs))) as usual to all with sadness in their lives, my love to you all0 -
Morning peeps
bit warmer here this morning, i`ve put the washing machine on before i left and the dishwasher too. DH will empty the dw and breadmaker when they have finished and i shall hang up the washing.
I have emptied the slowcooker and left the contents cooling in a large dish, i hope that DH remembers to pop it into the fridge before he leaves. I made liver and bacon casserole, some of this we shall have later for tea and the rest will be whizzed up with some butter to make a nice spreading pate for toast - can`t beat it really, its very nice and much cheaper than anything from the shops and not full of rubbish either.
Donny Gal - Thanks for posting about the smilies yesterday, it seems to work for me sometimes and not others but at least i know that i`m not the problem IYKWIM:D
Well this keyboard is horrendous to type on so i shall see if i can find another one to swap it with.
Have a good day everyone - i shall pop back later.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Good Morning Everyone
Monday again
Good news is DS is ok to go back to school :j OH isn't working today but has to go out for a couple of hours so will get some time on my own.
Can't do loads of paperwork till I get my proper laptop back so will do the essentials in the office this morning then potter around the house. Have a tesco delivery this morning and also a man coming to change our electric meter.
Will do bits of pieces of housework and some baking today. Will make another loaf of bread as we are having a simple tea of omelettes with bread and butter tonight. Ironing is all done at the moment :T
Will also try and make sometime for scrapbooking.
That's all for now, have a good productive day, (((hugs))) wherever needed.x0 -
Morning all,
Well supposed to be at dentist later but got up with cold so not really a
good idea! will have to rebook again.
Husband gone to work and shopping to get done tonight, plenty of
meat left over from roast yesterday so having an easy tea with meat in gravy over
home made chips
Ds2 is at home today so he will help me tidy up as not too good on my
legs today.
Hope you all have a good day0 -
Morning everyone.
DS decided he wanted to start the day at 4.30am  Thankfully after much whinging and me getting into bed with him he went off to sleep. DD up bright and early though. Didn't do my ironing last night as was too tired so still have that mountain to clear.
Off to indoor play centre. It does them both good to have a run around. Am meeting mindee and her mum again so that will be nice
Tea is sausage casserole which I need to get on with and sort out (I really need to get more prepared some days)
Thriftlady - loved your blog
Molly - glad to see the smilie worked.
NPM - Have you eaten all the cheese scones
remmie - my always said things comes in threes and when things like that would break she'd snap a matchstick as the third thing :rotfl: You could always try that - nowt to lose
Had a nose at the pic from the meet. Nice to put faces to names. Hope you all enjoyed it.
Right got a green tea with my name on it and need to get tea for tonight prepped.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning All
Well DS1 'killed' another car yesterday  not entirely his fault; the gearbox more or less fell out and just happened to be when he was driving. I told him to leave the room when he told me otherwise I was going to 'chew the face of him' when it wasn't really his fault ....and then I just sat and cried. I should never had bought the bloomin thing...its green!!! Green cars are unlucky and the last one I had tried to kill me on several occassions! So I sat and cried. I don't get paid until Friday - I have no family here that I can borrow off short-term, and I just don't know what to do. Its going to cost around £300 to fix and thats providing we can get a gearbox from the scrap yard. I don't know whether to cut my losses and buy another cheap car or plough more money into this one.
And if that wasn't bad enough....some of you may remember that I was at court with DS2 at New Year...we're back in today to get a date for trial. It still seems completely unreal that its even going this far and I still expect someone to say 'Oh hold on a minute this has been a terrible mistake....' The barrister said last time we were there that a boy of 17 had a fight in a McDonalds car par and was charged with the same thing as DS2 and had no prior convictions...(same scenario as DS2) and he received 18 months custodial sentence. I can't even think about that prospect. It just seems unreal that he can get started on by a drunken lad in a car park, who when he sobers up realises he was the instigator and don't make a statement.....that this has all been taken to court on a witness statement from someone inside a lit building 50' away who works with DS1 and they hate each other and she knew the other lad involved.
Sorry didn't mean to ramble. Need to pull my self together or I'm going be stood crying in from of the judge...DS2 would disown me:rotfl:
Nobody died. Nobody's sick. what is it in that sig....'Keep calm and carry on'?...sound advice I think!
Nothing OS will be going on today I don;t think but we'll see what time I get back

Morning all,
Feels very cold here this morning, we got such a lot done yesterday, lots of little jobs that have been nagging away at me, and I now have my washing line up :T, I got a huge load almost dry yesterday, will do a towel load later on.
Today I need to finish rubbing the walls in the conservatory, then clean up the dust and maybe paint if I get enought time, Zipppy you would hate my house, am planning on painting almost everything white, and the conservatory will have laminate floor :rotfl:
DD is off to a gig tonight ( All time low ) , I did not realise it was a school night when she booked the tickets, she will sleepover with a freind after, and go straight to school in the morning, so she will be tired tomorrow night. So its just OH and I for dinner, will go and look at the meal plan in a while, but might do something simple like jacket spuds and tuna.
I need to give the bathroom a lick and a promise this morning, and maybe hoover through.
DD and I watched 'The Notebook' yesterday, and sobbedits a lovely film, and for anyone with family affected by altzimers it really brings it home to you
Anyway better get on, have good days all.
Big hug for lowesy and her OH xx
JC good luck in court today xx0 -
JC - Hugs as you sound really down today. I can't believe the CPS are continuing with this case? Presume that when the trial starts this so called witness will be cross examined and all the things you know about her (as in hating your DS2 and being a friend of the instigator) will be put to her? I don't have any advice but just wanted to offer some support.
Oh no experience of green cars (we have mostly white, blue or black here for some reason) but how much was the car worth? If the repairs are going to be more than the actual cars value I'd cut my losses and get another. Sad fact is cars cost money, quite ridiculous amounts really and I am lucky as my dad is a trained mechanic so he helps us out a great deal. xxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all
Dark and still wet underfoot but no more rain at the moment. I can't believe it's Monday morning again already! DS1 and DS2 went to Rugby training yesterday for the first time and absolutely loved it, DS2 has been asked to go to a match next week and will possibly get to play - he's so chuffed. It was nice to watch, it's a local club and really well organised with a nice facilities building, with a bar (most important!!), kitchen, changing rooms, showers etc. The training was for 2 hours and the kitchen had hot and cold drinks, food etc for sale then the children were all given a hot dog after training. There's lots of adult coaches/helpers and parents that stay to watch so nice social atmosphere, nice to see still people/clubs going where it's voluntary and people helping etc. It wasn't actually cold outside but standing on wet grass for 2 hours my feet were absolutely frozen - now have to run around this week to get DS2 a gum shield as they won't let him play without one.
OH very pleased with himself as my computer chair had been broken and we thought we would have to get rid of it, but OH managed to get another chair and change the base piece over and now my chair is as good as new and it hasn't cost us anything! Chair is a lovely high backed with arms computer chair that came from where OH works as part of the base was broken so due to Health and Safety they chucked it out and we got it, the seat etc is spotless, so a good freebie! Roasted chicken for dinner last night and we had with jacket potatoes, OH and DS1 had cheese and beans and DS2 and I had jacket potato and salad. Got all the muddy kit washed and is now ready to go on the airer and managed to spill a glass of apple juice over my dressing gown last night so have put in the wash and will put in the dryer before I go to work so it's dry when I get home.
Have to go otherwise I''ll be late for work.
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.
