To prepare for situations like this you could get yourself a pre-paid Visa card and top it up with £20, you could even keep adding the odd fiver here and there over time and before you know it next time you are up !!!!!! creek without a paddle you have the means to access cash from another ATM or get cash back from a supermarket or pay for a train ticket etc.

Hindsight is torture but please try and learn from this experience, rather than dwell too much on the negative situation try and turn it in to a positive.

Google Cash Plus or pre-paid Visa and you will find a suitable product.

    Regards

Some time ago I learned not to rely on one account:
A&L computers went down. No cash from any cash machine (even other banks), refusal when trying to use card at a shop - therefore no money for petrol, no money for food etc. A&L said basically nothing will work and they didn't know how long it would be till the fault was sorted (thankfully it was only a few hours in the end).

Ever since then I have opened two simple cash card accounts with different banks and use them to budget each month, eg car repairs/road tax savings goes in one account, gas and electric prepay money goes in another. Next time, at least I will be able to get to a cash point and get some sort of money out ;)

Unless, of course, LINK goes down. ;)

A gesture of goodwill is not accepting liability, A&L were admitting customer service failings, but your lack of foresight was still a contributing factor to the situation. I think you got some good advice on this thread, with the only bitterness now being excreted by yourself.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

You could put the £80 on to a pre-paid Visa or Mastercard and keep it for emergencies.

Or using £40 to keep you petrol tank topped up and perhaps keeping the other £40 in your wallet for the next time you may find yourself in a similar position?
  • I see you're all still in denial and won't accept you're wrong. I assume you're all women or if not sit down to go for a pee :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
