It's the first thing I've made from this book, I bought it without realising that all the recipes use cup measures instead of weighing the ingredients. I hate using cups, it seems really imprecise, not to mention that the kitchen ends up being a mess afterwards because of trying to pour flour and sugar into a small container and it spilling everywhere.
Next time you do a recipe this way, why not weigh the amount of flour/sugar etc after you've poured a cup's worth, and then in the future you can skip the cup bit completely and weigh ingredients out normally. HTH0 -

An American cup is half an American pint, so 8 fluid ounces. It might be easier to measure your ingredients in a trusty measuring-jug rather than messing around with coffee-mugs of varying volumes. That's what I do, in any case.
This afternoon I've had a bit of a baking production-line going. So far I've made 2 different mixtures of Twink's HobNobs: plain and coconut, some Weetabix brownies and a banana loaf thingy. And not baking, of course, but I also made some hummus.0 -
Thanks guys. I do actually have a proper set of measuring cups and I have two Martha Stewart cookbooks (cupcakes and cookies), plus a subscription to Martha Stewart Living magazine that starts in May, and there are so many recipes online that use cups, so I thought rather than having to refer back to a conversion table and convert all the ingredients I'd just try and get used to it. If millions of Americans can use cups, so can I! If it still bothers me after I've done it a few times, I'll weigh out a cup of flour, sugar, icing sugar etc etc and then convert the recipes and do it by weight instead.
Anyway I just fed my friends some of the lemon bars and they were very well received so at least the recipe worked0 -
I baked a sticky lemon cake with lemon curd and cream cheese icing, Orange and marmalade cupcakes and white and dark chocolate marbled brownies.
It's been a bit of a nightmare in work lately for both me and DH so I thought I'd make some treats for us to take to work to share.
I'm going to make a raspberry crumble cake for supper tomorrow as I have a friend over, couldn't make it today as I turned my back to unload a bag of shopping and before I could empty the other my 4 yr old had eaten a punnet of raspberries from the other bag:A0 -
