    Welcome-BlueSmiley.gif Shelley

smiley-good-post-sign.gif exup - lots of interesting things in there.
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
  • Morning everyone

How are we all today? Some very emotional and personal posts the last few days. I can identify with a lot.

Yesterday OH was out all day till nearly 7pm. Piglet was an absolute horror all day. Even my step-daughter said she couldn't believe how different he was to normal. I think inwardly he was very annoyed his Daddy had gone out and left him behind, and was taking it out on me.

Normally this would have meant I opened the wine between 5pm and 6pm. But I didn't. And you know what? It didn't even cross my mind. I've been alcohol free since the beginning of the year and I think I'm starting to think and act more calmly and rationally.

OH came home at 7pm and we all sat down to dinner together. Piglet was put to bed and we played a couple of board games with other kids. It was nice, a calm and fun ending to a pretty carp day. Couldn't have finished the day like that if I'd been drinking.

At this point I'm not saying I'm never going to drink again. I'm not putting that pressure on myself. I'm just saying at the moment I'm enjoying the life I'm having without alcohol.

    See.....I'm rambling now!:rotfl:

    Anyway.......

((hugs)) to all those in need (Jo, Gien, DB, Fay)

24 for me please HB! Hope you flu is a bit better!

Shaggy - well done on the weightloss!

OH just taken the kids home (they are off to a pantomine this afternoon with thier Mum) and has taken PIglet with him. So I'm going to enjoy the peace and quiet!!

    Miss P
    xx

    Morning all

A big welcome Shelly  welcome to the thread :D there is lots of support here to help you be wherever you want to be. You don't have to make an instant decision whether you want to be a cutter downer or an abstainer. I would (in my humble opinion), say to yourself that you will not drink on a Saturday and see how that goes, there is nothing wrong with drinking, so long as you can control it. Obviously if you only were to drink on a Saturday but drink more than a weeks worth of units in one night, then there is something you'd need to address. This is very unhealthy as your liver can not process such a huge amount of alcohol in such a short space of time. Get some advice and support from the peeps on here, come up with a plan and see how it goes. HB is scoring this month and Fay will be scoring next month, if you've been lurking you'll know that some posters pledge their amount of alcohol free (AF) days they'd like to achieve over the month. Don't feel pressured to join in, some don't declare a total. Good luck :) Oooh.....just re-read your post, can I add that my husband knew that I used to drink to much too and accepted it until eventually he started making comments about it, by then I was too far down the road to just stop or cut down and then the comments weren't passing comments, they were more judgemental and I became resentful. Not saying this will happen to you or anyone else, it's just the nature of the drug I guess...

exup, thank you for posting :) you know what, I'd do anything to be you, to not even know what needing a drink it like :rotfl: the only way I can describe it (from my perspective) is that it's like a hunger. Imagine you are starting to feel a bit peckish and you get visions of eating and you are aware your belly needs feeding, this over a short amount of time gets worse and gets to the point that you can't think of anything else, it's a distraction from everything else you should be doing, it fills your brain. That, to me, is what my main symptom of alcoholism is. Please don't bother trying to find out what it's like :D

Angie, hope everything is going well there and the house move is settling down. Hopefully once you are settled you will no longer need the sleeping pills. Have you tried the obvious like not eating too late, no caffine after 6pm, physical exercise during the evening, warm bath, hot milk and lavender smelling stuff on pillow?? xx

Shaggy, that weight loss is fantastic :T:T:T well done :D and the money saving is great too, I hope you enjoy your cut and colour all the more :D My problem with quitting drinking is that I'll put weight on rather than lose it as when I drink I don't eat. Last night I didn't drink and ate double egg, chips, bacon, beans and bread and butter......did resist the choklit though :T Have a great day :)

Miss P, enjoy your peaceful morning. Well done on resisting the wine yesterday :T

Well it's Sunday which means chore day :( I really have no excuse as I didn't even get dressed yesterday *rolleyes*

Feeling good today, extremely unhungovered, not even tired, slept from just after midnight till 8 summat this morning and didn't need paracetamol. Might do a rubber chicken for the 3rd week in a row today, but need some ideas of what to do with the left over chicken and stock as the last 2 weeks I've had thai chicken noodle soup, though delicious, I want to make pie and never done that before, any one know a good recipe?

We have pies sometimes. just chuck in bits of chicken with whetever leftover veg there is from the dinner, some gravy, then freeze until ready to eat :). We also have fajitas, or stir fry with the ORM (Old-Style Recovered Meat ;):D) and freeze the stock in batches for use in general cooking - you really will know the difference ;)

eta : I got a great fajita spice mix off old style if you want it :)

    Morning all

Thanks for starting the new thread Lurkio, welcome Shelly

Hello Shaggy, Jo and Miss Piggy

I haven't been AF for 2 days, just two glasses of wine a day but tbh I didn't enjoy them much. I won't be drinking today and I don't think I will this week, money is tight and I just don't fancy it :A

I'm off to have a lurk around MSE and probably get some more sleep

    Bye for now

    xx
    AF days in Feb 2010 - 2 :A

  • Morning all and welcome to the newbies.

I was re-reading bits of 'no big deal' last night.I particularly liked the bit where it was saying that when you've been AF for a while your mind starts playing tricks on you. It starts telling you that 'You weren't really that bad'II'm sure you could have one more drink and everything would be ok'

I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that I need constantly reminding that it was bad....I was out of control.....and that little voice in my head can just go f off.

    Quote from the book...

'There is a temptation, once we are feeling healthier, physically and mentally, to forget the misery of active addiction. 'what was all the fuss about?' we think 'It wasn't really all that bad'
    It was that bad.'

Thats the line that really stood out for me last night and I'd thought I'd share.

    Have a great Sunday everyone.
