What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Its 10.45am Monday morning, we just changed our clocks so we are 9 hours in front now...makes it a Bit easier to Skype people back home!
Yeah I agree, he has managed 4 days and then 5 which I was very impressed with, I did the same which I was pleased about as if I've had a stressful day, I reach for the red wine!
I think I'm just going to have to try to be the one that stays dry and hope that he will do the same, I did have a small glass of red wine last night but it was DD's birthday and I had a big party, felt I needed it!

EDIT 10.50...took me so long to type!!

The only person you can keep alcohol free is yourself. Expectations of others frequently leads to disappointment and resentment.
Alcohol plays such a big part in so many people's lives that the desire to cut down/give up has to be strong and come from within. Your OH will only try and cut down/give up when he feels ready, regardless of how you feel.
By all means be an example to him by cutting down/stopping yourself, but do not expect him to follow your lead.

Unfortunately, some people put alcohol before relationships with their loved ones. I myself sometimes let down my wife, not coming home for dinner when I said I would, as I was drinking.
I would be regularly hungover when playing with my kids, and thus I wasn't really there. This is because my relationship with alcohol was prioritized before
my relationships with others. At the time I thought I was the best husband and father in the world, but with hindsight I realised that my alcoholism made me very selfish.

Alcohol damages me and hurts those close to me. Why did I carry on drinking? Because I was alcoholic, and couldn't see clearly the misery that my drinking would inflict on the people I thought I truly loved.
Stopping the drinking and changing myself was necessary for me to stop this damaging and destructive behaviour. However, it was a long time coming until I was ready to be willing to do anything to stop. People are ready when they are ready. And sometimes they will lose jobs, houses, families, friends, etc first. Some people will lose their lives to alcohol before admitting they have issues.
It sounds like your OH and yourself acknowledge there is a problem and want to do something about it. Well done and good luck :T

    Morning Liuhut

Hard as it sounds he is going to have to WANT to give up. It seems as if he is aware of the consequences that his drinking is having through the eyes of your DD and he did stop for 4 days. I know when I was smoking everyone was telling me to stop but I only managed it when the penny dropped for me and me alone.

Difficult one and I do not have the answer but I hope things work out OK.

Hope you dont mind but what is the time in Melbourne ATM ?

So true YM - and there is no answer. The most we spectators can do is offer support, compassion, and honest advice. We have to give time time
