MountainOfDebt wrote: »Haha, before you do Lurkio, it's about a middle aged man, made redundant who decides to look at his life, effectively. One item alone makes me want to stop drinking and it's the fact he shouts at the kids in the mornings after drinking and that his drinking is out of control: it's the one thing I do, in parenting, that I loathe about myself and that's drinking affects the way I am with the kids. I read that passage on Monday on the flight here and it has deeply affected me.
That's fantastic MOD. I've just qualified as a Parenting Practitioner and agree with everything you've said. It's not just the shouty, hungover mornings it's being unavailable emotionally while drinking. I can hold my hands up to trying to shuffle my son off to bed quickly so I could crack open the wine...in the days when my rule was 'No drinking while he was still up' that didn't last long and I was drinking in the evenings when he was still up....(Cue GC and his progressive bit!). I allowed myself to think behaving in this way was ok because other friends did the same (birds of a feather, denial etc) I can remember evenings where I just let him stay up while I got drunker and drunker. Sad and sorry times. So glad I've left them behind.
Drink for me is a nasty thing, it ruined me, my relationships, my prospects, my motivation, my health and my wallet. I am so glad that I stopped and I wouldnt of been able to do that without this thread so
Thank you everyone.

Ummm- perhaps I should write a book: "40, single mum in benefit trap"...
Well done PBT and Sparkles!!! :j:j:j
MAD tonight with 24 please Shaggy. I am too tired to hear the bells even if there were any. Very early to bed for me after facing the battle: "wash the Monkey" and no, I am not talking about the Yellow variety."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Sick sick sick in my household
Oh was sick
I got sick - am still sick
DS is sick
DD is now getting sick
Promise to catch up soon.
Miss P - all I can say is think of what you wished someone said to you at that age and hope you can sit and talk to her like the young adult she clearly is - she's experiencing all these emotions for the first time - she needs good 'adult' advice and some plain but loving talking. xxx Hugs me dear xxxx At least she's talking xxxx
I left home at 16 - kinda wonder how life might have been different if I could have talked to my parents or even been able to be in the same room as either of them - or if anyone had asked me to stay or why I wanted to leave - I just had to get out. I can't imagine how upset I'd be if my kids didnt talk to me now even at 13 and 15 1/2. I think I'd be devestated if they left at that age - so young.
Hugs my love
Jo sends her love she's snowed under at work and one of her kids is mega sick poor lamb xxxxx hugs to her as well. xx
Waves to all with a hankie firmly over face, sorry for being so rubbish, managing to get out in field but little else of my normal life xxx

Snap, Fay, so did I. Hope everyone in your household is feeling better soon. Hugs!!
Early morning letter writing here again, these DCAs are idiots, feeling like fighting wind mills - if you know what I mean."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."
