Set yourself a target and try and stick to it.
If you cannot stick to it, then your relationship with alcohol maybe deeper and more complicated than you envisaged.
I could never stick with my targets for long.
What I believe now is that normal drinkers change their drinking to suit their goals. Alcoholics change their goals to suit their drinking.0 -

I have had a fab weekend. Took my mum for a posh afternoon tea in London for her 70th bday and have been out for a lunch today with my brother and family. Lunch was a pub one and wasn't even tempted at all.
I think i've nailed the going out bit i.e doesn't bother me when people drink around me. However have a friend coming to spend weekend with me in a few weeks and really don't want her drinking in the house...I know she will be cool about it but just wondered how other 'giver uppers' deal with other people drinking in their houses.
Also wondering what to do for my birthday. Last year was dreadful, I was probably at one of my lowest points. Sent my son to stay with my mum and drank myself into oblivion behind pulled curtains for a few days....so want this year to celebrate my AFness. I will give it some thought.
Fine about others drinking in the house.
They have to buy it though, and I'll potentially pour it away or give it away if they leave it with me after they have left.
I have strict boundaries with my own behaviour, and thus I expect other people to behave in certain ways. I wouldn't put up with people getting really p1ssed up in my house and causing carnage. That part of my life is over.0 -
Many thanks for your comments Graeme. I fully endorse them.
I do worry about the folks who visit this thread who are obviously in need of help, but then we never hear from them again.

Morning chaps and chappessesses
Had a nice (AF) weekend in new house - We sat and toasted the sunset on the first night watching the lighthouses starting to blink with some fizzy pomegrante juice and some munchies instead of 'kid juice' and our fizzy we all had the same which was nice.
I have to agree with GC and RA above re folks drinking in my house.
When folks have been at my house - they bring their own and they take it away with them or it gets poured away or given away. Don't have the stuff in the house. Although I am getting better as lodgers have alcohol in house and aside one blip - I've not touched it.
Getting ready to head south at weekend, lots of folks to catch up with - thesedays I tend to try and see them during day so there's not the 'stay over and get lots of wine down your neck option' too much to do to be indulging in that anymore.
That part of my life (I hope) is over.
Morinng to GC and RAand everyone else about.

Agreed. Hopefully they are well, however alcoholism (if they are alcoholic) is a progressive disease, so some of them could be in real trouble now.
What happened to people like DEBTMONKEY1A, sleepyjo, stroppy, phoenix_dragon, samandsheryl, SiannieLaz, noynoy, etc???
I hope they disappeared for the right reasons....0 -
Hi all,
Well just got back from the CAB office for advice on divorce. Been looking up what forms are needed etc and the fact I may need a solicitor due to pensions. My head is wrecked...
Maybe I need to be concentrating on moving out first, I don't know. Feels like information overload
I'm going to see if any local solicitors do a free 30 minute session so that I can at least get some idea of whether I will definitely need their services or not.
Had an emotional weekend with hubby but think we are both starting to accept what's happening.
Hope everyone is OK this Monday morning, I don't like Mondays lol0 -

I think people are very transitory on threads, not just this one. I know I've joined in on other threads only to drift away after a while. And, as we all know, its easy to come onto this thread after a heavy/bad drinking session and be very gung ho about cutting down/stopping. But, long term, peoples views start to change. And sometimes life gets in the way!
But lets hope all previous posters are ok, happy, and getting on with thier lives.
