    Hi all

I am new on here but have been reading this thread for several months.

I have always been a social drinker but over the last two or three years my drinking has got out of control . I can't pin down exactly why - lots of reasons - and of course drinking too much has made everything worse.

I have tried to cut down / stop loads of times and failed miserably, so recently I went to my local CDAT (Community drug and alcohol team) for help. It's taken ages but I finally started a 5 day home detox programme on Monday.

I have been prescribed a reducing dose of lithium this week. I don't know much about dosages but it doesn't seem very high (today I am on 5mg three times a day - then tomorrow 5mg twice a day). It has certainly helped the physical symptoms but I don't feel feel as calm and relaxed as I hoped I would!

Today will be my 3rd AFD - sounds absolutely pathetic but that's the longest I've gone for a year or two!

I was hoping to join this thread to get inspiration from all of you that are doing so well.

I know many people are just trying to cut down but I know that, at least for the forseeable future, I can't risk having even one drink. I really, really want to succeed in this but I am worried because I have the will power of a flea.

    Thank you for reading.

    Hi Bubble,

I think, for me, getting to understand I had an issue was the biggest step: now I know that, I am prepared for the battle. It seems to be different for everyone. It's helped me out, considerably, to be able to talk about it 'anonymously' as such as it's not something you can really say out aloud: it's taboo. Keep posting as it helps, me, and the people on here have all been through it.

Good luck though: 3 days is not to be sniffed at, keep up the good work.
Looking for a fresh start without credit.

Stick around, post as and when you want and I'm sure you'll find some important support and advice
