    Hi all

I am new on here but have been reading this thread for several months. (that in itself deserves a medal!:))

I have always been a social drinker but over the last two or three years my drinking has got out of control . I can't pin down exactly why - lots of reasons - and of course drinking too much has made everything worse.

I have tried to cut down / stop loads of times and failed miserably, so recently I went to my local CDAT (Community drug and alcohol team) for help. It's taken ages but I finally started a 5 day home detox programme on Monday.

I have been prescribed a reducing dose of lithium this week. I don't know much about dosages but it doesn't seem very high (today I am on 5mg three times a day - then tomorrow 5mg twice a day). It has certainly helped the physical symptoms but I don't feel feel as calm and relaxed as I hoped I would!

Today will be my 3rd AFD - sounds absolutely pathetic (sounds bloody good to me) but that's the longest I've gone for a year or two!

I was hoping to join this thread to get inspiration from all of you that are doing so well.

I know many people are just trying to cut down but I know that, at least for the forseeable future, I can't risk having even one drink. I really, really want to succeed in this but I am worried because I have the will power (Get this book, No big deal by John Coates. It will help teach you that will power is not what is required) of a flea.

    Thank you for reading.

    Good luck and welcome!

    Hey peeps :D

I've had an appointment about my shoulder & it's likely tha the amount of time I spend on my laptop is aggravating things :( So I will still be here but trying not to post quite so much (:o) as it gets better

I am MAD to the tune of 11, which is my bestest ever total, so am feeling quite pleased :)

Marru, angel, I'm sorry :( *hugs*

Hi Bubble :) Last time I went any stretch of time AF pre-this thread was after I'd had an operation & was on super strong drugs! Stick around, it's a great place ;)

    Thank you everyone,

I am having a break from tissues and distracting myself in FB. Also had overdose of lemon cheese cake - the ultimate comfort food.

I do apologice for my lack of manners: Welcome Bubble!
