40SM, don't have personal experience of home-schooling but know people who have and this may sound very harsh... but it makes for a very different lifestyle, can be hugely time-consuming and you don't get the time apart from your child that maybe is needed for re-charging. I think this is what needs considering most, you can always learn what's needed to fulfil the curriculum. Hugs to you and I'm thinking of you.
Thanks Maman,
Life is very difficult at the moment and I must admit that I am struggling to cope with it all. I should be at work at the moment but am trying to calm myself down as I have a massive knot in my stomach.

I am not having a good day ! Nightmare getting DS1 to school. Things are getting so bad that I am seriously considering homeschooling. Does it work well with your son ?

Hi 40SM,
Sorry you are having a duff day !
Yes it works well with him. Its the best thing for him I reckon. He would be screaming his head off every day if we sent him to school. We can't even leave him with a baby sitter for a couple of hours to go out. The only downside is the fact that the kids are 'always' at home, obviously you don't get the 6 hours break in the day ... if that makes sense.
If you want some ideas and contacts PM me and will get the boss to dig out some contacts / websites.

:j Well done on upping the target BHB.
Remember procrastination is the FAFF of time
(I think this means that you shouldn't put off FAFFing just go for it!)

Its not really that time consuming as the kids learn much quicker 1:1 than they do in school.
But as you say it the hard bit is not getting a break
It is certainly a lot less stressful at 8.30 in the morning

Thanks BHB,
I think its not going to be easy whatever decision I make. He is due to start secondary school in 18 months (Sept 2011) and that scares me (and him) witless.

Thanks for that BHB, must admit my experience was more with people who were home-schooling for religious reasons. They were following the curriculum because they had plans for children to re-enter mainstream/take external exams. What I really meant was keeping up on the things to actually teach would be the least of one's worries. Bottom line is, as you said, what suits your child best.:o0 -
Hello people
I hope you are all well hugs 40 SM - I can't offer much advice - my DS was really panicked about going into secondary school - it was one of hte main reasons we moved back to Orkney for the smaller schools and now that he's settled in a secondary with <400 kids he's happy enough - he's still not part of the 'mainstream' group of lads, but he has a lovely bunch of pals and they all hang in the library etc - geekdom lurks eh? He's happy and that's the main thing. If we had stayed where we were I cant see him settled so well and were also considering thinking of home schooling. Goodluck with it all, Any help we can be on the support from a distance side let us know OK??
So on to our 8th FAFF
Some may say this is old hat but here we go again - resolve is often strongest on Mondays - but it can be hard if you've had a weekend of having a few drinks
Remember - your body needs a rest of a few days a week if possible from the old veno collapso, beerio sleepyo
So tonights faffing - mind on about HALT
Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired
If you want to FAFF and are struggling - come enjoy the fun on here - there's bound to be a few folks about
I'm tired - Ive been out in the field all day
I'm hungry - but will nto go home via shops will go home and eat something before I consider my evening
No anger or lonlieness tonight so far - so I'm hoping to have another FAFF tonight
I'm tired from all the sampling so I need a lovley hot meal and a lovely hot bath
I may be painting my toe-nails as I faff tonight, I've got my blog to update, photos to download and then put on FB - a thank you card to write and some socks to pack upall of that should surely keep me out of mischeif????????????
OK- how about you guys?? What are you putting off that you could be getting on with tonight rather than opening a bottle and having a peedie glass of something?
[Please note having a peedie glass of something whilst not FAFFing is perfectly acceptable - think limits of course] xxxxxxxx
How you faffing ce soir??
PS is it glee night tonight - I love gleebut I forget when it is - senility looms with me

Hi Fay - welcome back, glad you had a lovely time. 7 FAFF days for me now please.
Jo - I read Nigel Slater's book, it's really good. I loved his last series, he makes everything look so easy. I made some fairy cakes this morning which were a complete disaster. Oh well, at least I had a go. Received all the info about the Office Manager job but in the "Essential" part of the person spec it says "budget monitoring and financial management" which I've never done. Hey ho, I'll keep looking.
Have a lovely evening everyone xx
