All you need to do is call the people at Insight

www.insight.com/uk and they will spec this up for you no problem. Go for a IBM or HP server dont go for Dell.

No, it is just that I would have thought an assignment should be the work of the Student, not that of the MSE forum members ...

Not that asking for help on particular points is wrong, but to come on without being up front and just asking "I need to source a server for a project of mine and have no idea where i get one from." ... is a bit off, IMHO :(

Lets not mistake a server for being abit of hardware because its not strickly speaking, all it is a bit of software that has alot of functions that a normal user OS hasn't.

In computing, a server is part of a computer network which does a particular task, for example storing or processing information, for all or part of the network.

A computer that provides client stations with access to files and printers as shared resources to a computer network

A server is a computer that handles requests for data, email, file transfers, and other network services from other computers (i.e., clients).

A computer system to provide access to information or Web sites.

In computing, a server is any combination of hardware or software designed to provide services to clients. When used alone, the term typically refers to a computer which may be running a server operating system, but is also used to refer to any software or dedicated hardware capable of providing services.
