Please don't call hardware a "web server" like someone here did though, Apache is a web server...0

Only a little less than mine running my website!
Originally Gateway P2 (350Mhz), put in a P3 (500Mhz), which shouldn't work,but does.
Max 2x128MB ram, put in 2x256MB, which shouldn't work, but does, added dodgy XP and wamp on a 8GB HD, and now playing with HTML and Komposer.
To the OP, got it from peoples throw outs and Freecycle, total cost £0
Don't joke - at work we still use some HP Netservers - PIII 500MHz, 1GB RAM, 2x 9GB HDD, running Win Server 2000 / 2003. Bought them on eBay a couple of years ago for around £100, and use them for Webservers and Domain Controllers with no probs at all0 -
I have an old Pentium 180 he can borrow, with 64MB RAM and a 120MB hard disk ...
Works a treat with Window 3.11 for Workgroups ... even got it going nicely with Win 95 once :rotfl:
Sounds great, but you need to put a decent OS on it: allow me to suggest NT 3.51 :rotfl:Je suis Charlie.0 -
Look at Dell or Compaq and see what their offerings are - that'll give you something to compare against.
You can then decide whether to go for an alternative supplier and/or a cheaper option.
In setting up a large network, you should also consider the costs of support & maintenance.
If the users are storing large amounts of data/information, then you will also need to consider backups.0
