  • Good morning ladies, hope you are all well. Still over a month away from starting the DMP (Payplan won't start it until all new debts have at least 3 payments), but am feeling positive as in the main you guys are all beginning to get good news and I think this new government initiative on helping people in debt has come at a good time for all of us.
LBM Jan 2010. DFD 2016.
    Paddle No. 5.
    Debt at DMP start (May 1st '10) £54.9k, as of 1st Oct '11 £33.2k. 40% cleared.
    (3 F & Fs down, 5 to go!) :T

Thanks for all the welcomes :)

I really can't wait to get the ball rolling on this - part of me is running screaming away from what this will do to our credit rating, and the idea that we will be referred to as 'defaulting' on things, but the rest of me knows it's the only way to survive, and also the only way to pay off the debts within our lifetime! Minimum payments are only covering the interest on a lot of things, as I'm sure a lot of people here have experienced.

The budget sheets have got me really excited though, after so long of just not being able to get stuff. It's like, "you mean I get to budget for clothes? I've been wearing and washing one bra that doesn't fit properly for six months, and I get to have a clothes budget and go buy a new one because people will acknowledge there are things we actually need?! That's amazing!"

On a more serious note, I like Susan Jeffers (Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway)... 'whatever happens, I'll handle it...'

Shame I can't think like that when I'm opening letters...

See that phrase - whatever happens..... scares the hell out of me!! Do you think thats the fear she's referring to lol

:rotfl: We've all been there mate!! I bought hubby a new coat at the weekend out of our "clothes account", felt fantastic to not have to worry about whether I'd be able to pay the gas bill! I LOVE budgetting!! I have more bank accounts, pots, piggy banks and spreadsheets than are probably healthy :rotfl:

  • wOW - all these pages since I last visited! Hilarious and so comforting as well. Hope you are all well, I am on my way now, token payments sent, DMP starts on 1st April. Virgin and Natwest Current account accepted up to yet, still waiting to hear from Halifax, Egg, Natwest Credit Card, Cap One and Tesco Loan. Still a bit nervous every day when I see the post on the mat, and still have a feeling of dread as it is all still a bit up in the air. what do I do if I get letters saying they are not accepting DMP or reduced payments?

Anyway, everything changed over to new TSB account now, all bills going out, salary and child benefit going in, Natwest is now history and I had to send back my cut up card to them lol.

On my TSB online accoutn there is an option to start a savings account - if I were to put say £10 a week into this would I have to declare this to CCCS or creditors etc? I would save it at home "under the bed" so to speak but its too tempting to dip into it - I would rather put it in a bank.

Anyway, have a nice day folks, over 100 pages - wow! x

I was wondering something similar - I'd like to save up a couple of hundred pounds as an emergency fund (for when the car breaks or similar) and then just maybe save until we've got a few hundred, then give it to the creditors. Not sure how it would all work though.

Hey Rhian, I'm self managing so I can do exactly that. I found the CCCS budget over generous and we've been living on considerably less than they suggest so I am cutting back harder than the CCCS would allow. I have a savings account for car slash house maintenance slash general emergency fund and an investment account at the Post Office where I am putting anything where I come under budget towards saving for full and finals in the future, IYSWIM?
