A thought struck me that we are all being conditioned to see a high credit score as a good and desirable thing:mad: and to want to be able to get credit as if this proves your worth, it now seems to me that the only thing it does is keep the bankers in profits:(. Wow I luuurve this site:A0 -

Hi Everyone!
Happy - it is weird how we're programmed about credit ratings...to get credit and effectively put yourself in debt  I was at dinner with my girlfriends last night (none of who know about my 'situation') and they were having a very long discussion about mortgages, almost to the point where I felt like I was an outsider as I didn't have a mortgage. I wasn't in 'the gang' and in a way (and I don't think deliberately) I felt really left out, like my life is worth nothing because I don't have a HUGE mortgage
I find it SO frustrating that you're judged so much on whether you do or don't have a mortgage....maybe some people just don't want one, what's wrong with that? it's a personal choice and something that shouldn't be frowned upon
Personally I can't wait to move in (rent) with my beloved OH and just live with him, I could give 2 hoots whether I own the bricks and mortar or not!
Sorry, speech over. Just felt like venting a bit of frustration this morning!
Nada to report on my DMP. Nothing. Not. A. Sausage.Paddle No 16

I think that you have identified a new status symbol--look at me I have a credit score of 20 000!!!!:j
A good credit score is important if you need to mortgage/remortgage, but useless for anything else. We have lived without ANY personal credit for about 8 yrs, but have been very lucky with the svr on the mortgage.
If we want anything we wait and save up for it, look around and only get it if we really need it. I really believe that if we all lived without credit everything, including houses, would be cheaper.
Its very liberating living this way.
good luck to all of you who started in February, it is well worth the journey.:)LBM-2003ish
Owed £61k and £60ish mortgage
2010 owe £00.00 and £20K mortgage:D
2011 £9000 mortgage0 -
I think I've said this before, but having a good credit score got me into this mess in the first place!!
My mortgage is fixed for the next 3 or so years, so apart from that I actually feel liberated not having to live off credit now, just getting frustrated at waiting for my DMP to start. :mad:LBM Jan 2010. DFD 2016.

Ready to go to post office after work to send my letter etc back to CCCS. Within a week from ringing the coop my details came through. Spoke to a nice lady last night to set up internet banking she was asking if I wanted to open a Cash ISA (wish I had the money spare to do so). But nice thought one day maybe. Not sure when to send letters to creditors with token payment shall I do that now or wait till I get my next statements from them? Feel its probably best to do it now and get it out of the way. How long is it till you hear back from CCCS once you sent the agreement back? Had a bit of a wobbler last night thinking is this the right path to take. Worried about not been able to get credit in the future but then realised I cant get it now anyway so what the difference would it be. Carry on strugging and getting in deeper or doing something about my situation. Going to go to Aldi at the weekend been a few times before couldnt believe the lemonade was only 18p for a litre bottle. Jam is lovely too yummy I seem to be able to work out the till ........... I just throw it all back in the trolley once I have caught it from the cashier!0

I totally agree with you Pat. Being able to get cards and loans without any questions got me in this situation too. My mortgage has another 3 years left on its fixed rate. Thinking I am going to struggle if I want to remortgage with having the DMP but just hoping in 3 years time I am a bit more sorted.:)0 -

Depends on who your mortgage is with Candy, when I remortgaged 18 months ago I stayed with the same provider, no credit checks, it took 5 mins and I got a great deal, I know from their website that they still do this.
Quite frankly if you've been paying it for a few years with no problems then I think they would look upon you very favourably anyway.LBM Jan 2010. DFD 2016.

Ooh I never thought about mortgages as in the past we have always moved mortgage every few years when the promo rate ran out to get the best possible deal - will we not be able to do this? We are tied in till 2013 with Abbey / Santander mortgage (actually I owe £5500 on an Abbey / Santander Credit Card - will they know this if I ring up to arrange a new mortgage deal - yikes!). I guess we wont be able to move to another mortgage company then if I am on DMP for 15 years :-( But would we be able to renegotiate a new deal with the existing lender?????
Anyway, looks like Natwest have been informed of the DMP as I tried to log onto online banking this morning and I cant access my account, they have taken it offline. This is not very helpful if I want to check my statement in the future to see if the CCCS payments are being made as I dont get paper statements. Also there are 2 more direct debits to c ome out - OH DEAR!!!!!!!!!0
