They must use the same script at my hospital. I had GD as well and was told to expect 8lb...

9lb11oz and a larger than average skull diameter later...

I had GD too, was told he'd be somewhere around 9lb, had a planned C-section (Thank God!!) born weighing 11.8 lb

We went straight to size 2, 10 months old and in 4+

If it were me I'd buy a couple of packs of size 2 as well.

It depends how 'useful' your OH is as well... Would he go and buy some size ones once the baby is here, if you needed them?

I found Pampers the best by far and always reverted back to them, but it really does depend on the baby (size and how much they move about/pee etc) so I'd be careful about buying too many!

If you do have any left over though, don't throw them away as they are brilliant for mopping up spills - they beat the best kitchen towels by a mile!

They are also useful when you start potty training as you can lay one under their car seat just in case and/or use them for quickly soaking up accidents.

We have used them when they've needed to go to the loo desperately while in the car too - soaks it all up!

My children were all sick a lot as babies and I used nappies they had grown out of to quickly deal with the big 'throw backs' we sometimes had when you and about too!

Also, at risk of this being TMI, if you are unlucky enough to be plagued by heavy periods after the birth, they make good night time STs! :o

Turns out I have 1 pack of size 1 as well (must be more organised and realise what I have bought in future!).

OH is great bestpud, and would go out at 3am if needs be, so at least not to worry too much on that score.

Thanks everyone for all your answers they've really helped a lot, it's a whole new (but exciting!) world being a parent, isn't it!

Someone will remind me of teh details later, but the boots club you get a free changing bag (it's a really good one so unless you have seen one you must have, get the boots free one, folk actually pay money for them on ebay) when you buy a pack of pampers newborn. Then you get a voucher for a box of huggies nappies and wipes too. So don't go buying smaller till closer and use your vouchers.

You can always put them in a larger size nappy to use them up, not such a good idea to go down.

DD is now is size 4 at 23 weeks, and has been from say 20 weeks. Size 3 fit but I like them a bit bigger. So, you will use them all up!

(and some say that certain supermarkets will exchange nappies for different sizes without receipts anyway)

Oh yeah, and all brands have different fits, so look out for that one. Pampers were the best for my boys, but they didn't fit DD, she's a huggies girl. Tesco newborn seemed to be just all wrong for her too. I ended up giving my friend an almost full pack of size 1 and 2 tesco, and size 2 huggies.

Thanks tiami, we've got that bag, it's great isn't it? That's where the other size 1 nappies come from.
