  • As I rigidly mealplan, imagine my horror as I got to dish up a rather large lasagne and I lost my grip on the pan! However, it fell quite neatly onto one of the wooden dining chairs.......I dished it up from the chair while noone was looking:shocked:to my poor, unsuspecting family! I've never told them and they all survived:rotfl: :rotfl:Must stress the chair was clean!

when I was at uni I was always broke, and when it came to a good friend's 21st birthday I knew I had to go out and help her celebrate but I also knew if I did that i wouldn't be able to afford a present. So I went to her night out, got there late (to save on money) and she was already tipsy, as I was driving she asked me to put her presents in my car so she didn't lose them. Before I dropped them off to her house, I craftily added my name to one of the tags so she thought I had chipped in with someone else. I felt so guilty when she got me a lovely gift for my 21st....

We often BBQ together with neighbours as it's silly to turn on 2 or 3 bbq's when 1 will suffice :) and it's nice to socialise with everybody anyway :)

Do you do anything else communally with them;) ?? How about showering together to save on water - now that's sociable!!:p

Not sure if it's tight but I am trying to teach them that money has to be earned, there are no freebies in the real world. And, if they make a mess in the first place I don't see I should pay them to clean it up. But, reducing the price per job probably is a bit tight lol.

Nonsense - you are just teaching them what a recession is about!!!

oh and I SWAER I've never done this but a friend who was totally skint used to take her washing once a week home to be washed and dried, her mum commented that their was only one pair of knickers - her responce - I wore the same paid all week, you can get 6 days out of a pair of knickers if you use the gusset one day, one leg strap in said gussets place the next etc and then repeat wearing them inside out  thats taking a little too far and I prefer french knickers anyway!

I didn't do this but heard about it from a friend (honest!)

A wedding was being held in a very expensive hotel and some of the guests didn't want to have to pay the extortionate bar prices. However, the hotel was also renowned for not allowing people to bring their own drink and had been known to eject people for adding their own vodka, etc to mixers bought in the bar.

To get around this, the guests bought a wine box, wrapped it in wedding paper and put a tag on it then put it on their table. They discreetly filled their glasses from it during the evening and managed to get away with it undetected! I thought this was inspired.

BTW, I don't agree with pretending parcels haven't been delivered or dodging train fares. This is stealing, whichever way you look at it.

Whilst I am certain my OH would enjoy the view of 2 nurses, a primary school teacher and me showering together then - no :) He'll just have to keep imagining that I'm afraid ;)

But yes we buy oil at the same time to get bulk price, we often get things from Costco and split it 3 ways because some packs are too big :)

I've just been to Sainsburys to get some essentials, spent £3.95, whilst I was there grabbed a couple of Magazines ( Heat etc ) and headed to the restaurant, had a free glass of water read the magazine and then put them back!! They were in perfect condition, so competely resable.

I was once treated to a long weekend in a VERY expensive hotel... Wine started at about £22 a bottle  so I purchased a couple of decent priced bottles elsewhere and in the evening asked for a picnic to be set up on the front lawn with nibbles etc (told you it was posh) and told them I would like this particular wine served as it was from the Vinyard where we'd been on a romatic holiday the year before... And they duely served my £7 bottles of wine instead of £22+ bottles (that was the cheapest... the cheapest we would have drunk was about £30 a bottle...) and they even arranged for some flowers in our room as I might have led them to believe it was our anniversary ;)

I like thick sliced bread. Sometimes when the crusts are particularly thick I carefully slice a thinner crust off leaving me an extra slice of bread. My girlfriend thinks this is going too far but it is exactly what you do with an unsliced loaf. I think they leave a thick crust on so it looks nice in the packet.

Anyway I dont think the above is tight, it is getting the most out of something. Something we will all have to do if we are serious about cutting back on water, gas and electricity use like everyone predicts we will have to do.
