I use the back of till receipts (Wilko's are best as no print on the back
) or used envelopes to write my shopping list on.
Tightest thing recently - holding watering can under hanging basket to catch all the runs and drips to then water the pots!Back on the DFW Wagon:

I've noticed that bottles (of spring water or whatever) usually say 'do not refill' on the side. I do anyway, lol, but just wondered if anyone knew why?
Can't think of any excessively tight things I've done lately.... must try harder  :rotfl:Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now... Avenue QOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 003

I always carry at least one small bottle of tap water in my bag and have another in the car. If we're out and DD asks for a carton/can of juice I hand her the water

If, for some reason, I don't have any with me I find a supermarket and buy a 2 litre bottle of their own brand mineral water for about 17p.
I resent paying a quid for a teeny bottle/carton/can of syrupy liquid.
Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Luckily our kids dont drink juice as they used to go through a bottle ever so quick, so now they drink water. But instead of buying those sports caps ones all the time as they are easier for for eldest and toddler we refill them with norm water and they know no different.
Freecycle! Absolutley amazing and if I were to list everything we have gained from there you would not believe it. A Car which was a K Reg Metro but owned by an actual vicars wife as we collected it and she was indeed the Vicars wife, it was immaculate condition. A computer, bricks for new brick wall, and about 800 childrens books and several bits of MDF to build the 6 floor to ceiling bookcases. Apart from that its great to get rid of stuff which is no good or use that someone else can either fix or make use of.0 -
So far what ive read have translated into sound ideas, i think this country/planet is way too obsessed with wasting money in any which way possible.
Much to my dismay a thread comes up, albeit from lynz who is one of, who id consider, most advanded dfw on here, with a thread entitled what is the "what is the tightest thing youve done"
Why is saving money or being resourceful tight?
Why should someone like me who uses money dilligently be labelled as tight?
That is the problem with society today, everyone is so worried about labels, and spending money to show they are wealthy or at least doing well, to remember the real pleasures in life.
It really worries me that on debt free wannabe were are calling ourselves tight, we are not tight, we are visionaries, we are entrepeneurs we will do what it takes to make sure our money is used wisely.
Used wisely in what to be honest is a world in turmoil.
I for one am sick of the constant bombardment of idiots telling me i need to wear yadda brand 1 to be cool and yadda brand 2 is so yesterday, and if i wear brand 2 im a loser?
we as human beings are now in a very dangerous predicament, and i for one am glad that i dont consider spending money wisely or looking to extend my money to a fair value after i work my socks off all week, to be tight.
Lets stop the negativity, lets say what is your greatest dfw/mse achievement .
Im sorry to rant, especially at such a late hour, but i know lynz is a great poster, and im so discouraged when i see posts like this.
Being wise with money is not being tight.
If you want to waste money, you are not cool, you are not to be revered, you are an idiot.
Please stop treating the fact you are improving your lives, as being tight.
We are sooo much better than that0 -

THAT WAS ME!!! YES IT WORKS!!!
See Im so tight now, that I dont edven remember doing things like that they are so normal :rotfl:
Another thing last night, me & OH spent about 45 mins, working out which "deal" was the cheapest from about 10 pizza companies, one worked out about 70p cheaper so I called them they said the deal had gone up a pound, so I hung up! Then spent another 10 mins debating which one was cheaper again, and then bought them. Well you wanna make sure that you get good value whe your having your treats dont you :rotfl: :rotfl::beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
