Why on earth would we be harsh on you? A little jealous, maybe, that we don't have lovely forgotten amounts like that, but not harsh, not in a million years!
If it were me, I would pay off the debt when it comes through, and be debt free - the feeling that this would give will be immeasurable.
Then when the accident money comes through, you can do whatever you so choose!!
Fab situation, hun. I really am pleased for you xxxxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
thanks hypno i do feel lucky that i can get rid of the debt it wont be till the end f the year but i can do it ...with the car accident money it could mean starting to build up a safety net ...that will be the next important thing to do i never invisenged (sp) that i would be in this situation years ago when hubby was earning good money and we were going away on holidays taking debt out left right and centre ...i never thought of the future..we just lived for the day ...but i am proud that we got on top of the situation before it got too out of hand...it has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs and i have no doubt it will continue to be ...and i certainly aint out of the wood yet but it feels good to see the light at the end of the tunnel ...thanks for your support0

Wow, what fantastic news! Lucky you! How wonderful.
If your debt is at low interest, it would probably be sensible interest-wise to invest the money and continue to pay the debt off slowly.
If it was me, I would be strongly tempted to pay the debt off anyway, just to be debt-free and never have to think about :mad::mad: debts again!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

so should i pay off the debt be debt free (something i really want but was starting to think i could never achieve) or carry on paying the debt at the normal rate and invest the money?
Put it wherever pays the best interest. Remember to take tax into account.i feel a bit of a fraud to be honest but truthfully i totally forgot about this money i put it by 5 years ago when money was no problem for us and we were spending like there was no tomorrow ...i think i did it cause hubby stopped getting his share saves but i honestly cant remember...please dont be too harsh with me
Why would we be harsh? Just shows - you weren't as bad pre-LBM as you thought..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Go for it El!!!!! As a newbie debt free person
I can vouch for how good it feels!!!

Only kidding yer daft beggar! Why would anyone stop talking to you? As far as I could tell you didn't appear to be a stalker or axe wielding maniac, and if I wasn't up to my eyeballs in child-and-husband-related stress, I would be chatting to you even more than I am!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
El hun, I am so pleased for you - what a lovely thing to happen - you really deserve to be debt free, and now you will be there sooner than you thought.
I would pay off the debt, and then use the car accident money for savings/investments personally, but when it comes to being debt free, my financial astuteness (yes, that IS a word.....maybe ) goes out of the window and I just have an overwhelming urge to pay stuff off!
