I've emailed them to ask what's going on… so far no response. They're not going to bill me for a scratched DVD that I couldn't even watch are they??? _pale_
That's going back as well. Oh well, at least I don't have to pay any money for this! I think maybe its time to try someone else… any recommendations for a company that sends better quality rental discs?0 -

Global e-rental seem to have a policy that if you check the box on the envelope saying a DVD is faulty, they will not update your list of films to say they have received it until they examine it themselves, hence the delay. I have just cancelled my subscription, and returned 3 DVDs, 2 of which I marked as faulty and one which was fine (Actually the only one I ever received from them that was fine!) - the undamage one was in my list as returned the following day, however the other 2 DVDs took a further 2 days to appear as received.
Something else to be aware of with global e-rental - they will need to receive your discs back before you can cancel your account - therefore if you are on the free trial, you'll need to send the DVDs back at least 2 or 3 days before the trial is due to end - a tip is to remove all other films from your list, so that they don't send out any more to you. Also, they will not refund payment pro-rata if you cancel a paid subscription midway through a month - generally, I would say it's best to avoid them all round!
Blockbuster seem to have a fairly good service, although they never seem to send you the top items from your list - the same is true for screenselect and lovefilm - that's the problem as this DVD rental malarky seems to be taking off bigtime and these companies can't really cope with the demand for the latest releases ...!0 -

If you use lovefilm, they only send one dvd out a week for each of your 3 DVDs your allowed, so it does not matter how quickly you return the DVDs.
I am allowed three DVDs and they are all currently shown as returned on their website since Wednesday, but I know they will not be sending any more out until Tuesday. It was the same last week.
It does not state this in their terms and conditions.
When I complained they had the cheek to say it was the postal service that causes delays. That must be their standard reply.
I have emailed them again, but they have not replied.
Edited to include their reply. Looks like their expanding too fast!
So if anyone is actually paying, it is worth complaining and they will stop charging for a while. Not sure what will happen to me as I am in the free trial.
Thank you for your email.
We are very sorry to hear that your service has been disrupted due to discs not being sent to you.
We are currently experiencing delays in receiving stock orders from our suppliers and hope to have this resolved within the next week.
In order to ensure that you are not inconvenienced any further, we have suspended your billing until such time as we are able to fulfill your total disc allocation. This means that you will not be charged for any day where you have not been provided with the full service, due to stock shortages and any discs you may have during this period are being provided free of charge.
This is a temporary measure only and we are working to resolving it as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Should you have any further enquiries, or require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours Sincerely,

hi,
whats the best 'free' service to start of with?
i am thinking of using a free trial offer then use a company for the summer period.
which are highly recommended and which ones should i stay away from?
thanks,0 -
To answer your question Mak Attack I've tarted with all the free trials and for me the best of the bunch were Screen Select.
I wouldn't put Blockbuster even second I found their service pretty slow. Tesco were much better for me than them. LoveFilm were ok but as I said for me the best was Screen SelectWaddle you do eh?0 -
I'm halfway through a one month trial with Lovefilm and I have to say they have been excellent - in the last two weeks I've had 11 films - all from the top of my list. The films I send back arrive at Lovefilm the next day and Lovefilm send out the next ones right away so that if, for example, I return a film on Monday I get one back on Wednesday.
I have noticed that the Lovefilm address has changed from Harlow to Peterborough - so maybe they've had a reorganisation which might explain why my experience seems so much better than many others?0 -
This seems to explain the change from Harlow to Peterborough:

I have just gone into screen select to take up their months free trial but it states 'Your trial will expire when we send your 5th rental, or after 28 days, whichever is the sooner'. I was under the inpression that it was unlimited but obvioulsy not.
I know people have had bad experiences with lovefilm but they are offering 6 free DVD rentals and 2 free cinema tickets.
Has anyone had this deal and do they actually get round to sending you all your 6 DVDs as it is only in a 14 day period?0
