Aw I didn't mean to be mean and kill the thread!

Lol, the thing is everyone knows you're right, but unless you've got iron willpower it's not easy! (Well done on the 3lbs though - you fall into the iron willpower category :))

You haven't killed the thread. What you say is all true although for example I'm not taking the weight loss seriously till 1st February- I need time for my mind to switch into dieting/healthy eating/no choc mode.

It's definitely helped me easing myself back into healthy eating/exercise routine. I've made a start, and been saying 'no' a lot, but at the same time I've only aimed to exercise twice this week and I ate pizza (and a few Gu naughties!) as I'm prepared to cut them out for the next few months, so hope it works¬
Oh god I fear I've totally done this :embarasse Dreading weigh-in tomorrow.

It's hard not to when we associate weekends with relaxing and treats, and unfortunately food is a large part of that! I'm trying to change my ways... Even if it means just having one slightly lax day at the weekend, instead of both. I know that I won't be losing 3lbs a week, but it's kind of like my debt-busting philosophy; it may not the fastest way, but at least I won't be miserable doing it. Whatever works for you!

ETA: Hi Ruth and welcome! It's amazing how weight just creeps on, but 23lbs is totally doable and you should see results soon! Good luck for next week, hope you can crack the 10stone barrier!

Am 5'5 (165 cm) but look size 12 (though can fit into size 10 clothes) with 8-10lbs on:o. I've very thin wrists and ankles, but my thighs are a bit chunky and have muffin top. I used to be size 14, but with gym and sensible eating I went down to size 10, I'm comfortable and confident at around 122lbs (which is a perfect size 10 for my body). I put on weight at the beginning of last summer as I got pregnant, than miscarried and never lost the weight (stopped going to the gym for about 4-5 months).
  • Have managed to stick to Slimming World this weekend, but will need ;)to have a glass of wine tonight whilst doing the ironing - the pile in the ironing basket is scary!
Am feeling the after effects of doing the Jessie Wallace DVD yesterday - she has lost loads of weight and looks fab. Just about to have a go on the Wii Fit - hope my enthusiasm for eating healthily and exercise continues

I admit I've not gone into it as gung-ho this time as I did last time, I'm going to go for it more next week - things like cutting out the small glass of wine I've been having most nights, and cutting out all coffee and tea - I have a lot during the day and the calories really add up - and switching to fruit teas which are only 8 cals each. Also all the Christmas choc has almost gone now so that will help!

Sorry to hear that Kavics and hope you are getting on OK - hopefully you're feeling strong enough now to get to the gym again - not going for a while is totally understandable.

    How's the paperwork going Poddle?

My weekend hasn't been great diet wise after a meal Thurs, meal Fri, lots of wine Friday and then revision all weekend which doesn't help. I knew this week would be bad as trying to diet while revising is always hard. From next week I will have more time to do exersize as well so that will help.

Well done on the 3 lbs Dinah - how can you do that with a gammy leg?

See I have the complete opposite philospophy - get it out of the way as quickly as possible so I can be happier for longer! Guess thats why I have strong willpower, I want the dieting bit to be out of the way asap!

Thank you for the welcomes :D

My plan is to lose the 23 lbs in 6 months (or less if I can) but without binge dieting (is there such a thing?). I know I need to increase the activity and decrease the calories, so I am hoping what will work for me is - cut out (or down) on the alcohol - it gets to be a habit to have a glass at dinner or before bed, or both!:o

Exercise is harder. I lead an erratic lifestyle due to my work, so I thought the best way to get additional exercise would be to include it in my daily life. So, instead of driving to the shops, walk (it's only three miles and a couple of years ago I was walking at least 10 miles twice a week); then start gardening again. Havent done the garden for years, but have the incentive/enthusiasm to start again (due in large part to these boards - thank you Martin :money:)

If I can lose two pound a week on average, I dont think that's too ambitious and ought to be achievable and more importantly, sustainable.

  • Confession time......last night I had half a bottle of sparkling rose and a bar of chocloate! I don't usually crave chocolate, but last night I just had to have it.....no resolve whatsoever!

I've made up for it today though, I've been cleaning like a madwoman and went for a walk with DS3. I forgot to take my pedometer but we walked for about two hours. He's all fired up now and wants me to start walking up mountains and cycling with him. My legs are already starting to ache after today's walk, so its going to have to be a gradual thing for me I think............I don't think my neighbours are ready for the sight of me on a mountain bike! :rotfl:

Ugh, bumface! I forgot to weigh in this weekend. Will do in the morning when I'm at my lightest :D

Sounds like everyone's doing well though! Was all 50/50 this weekend but I think it's roughly balanced! :o Ended up having a McDonalds for dinner on Saturday as I was in Doncaster and there is seriously nothing else to be had other than fast food! But balanced it out with a low-fat tea. *ahem* Starting my exercise routine again today, with my shiney new trainers!

Thinking of starting Slimfast though, as my mum has a lot of the shakes from her last stint with them so I'd just need to buy the snacks. Has anyone else tried this before?? One girl I know lost 3 1/2lb on it last week so I'm tempted.

Snowdonlily - The walk sounds good! I think 2 hours of walking is about 500/600 calories burnt?? But then your body carries on burning fat for up to a day after you've exercised (or so the bbc tell me!) so I think that's the wine + choccies covered :D

Weiged myself this morning - exactly 142lbs

    Want to lose - 23lbs

Aim - 2lbs per week - let's see if I make it by the end of the week.

Eats today: breakfast will be muesli with nuts and milk; lunch, soup and HM bread; dinner, HM stewed pork and vegetables. No wine to wash it down today, as that is where many of the additional calories are coming from. I really, really want to be able to fit into my dresses from last year before I go to Italy in May. Cant afford to buy new ones! Dont want to buy larger sizes!

Exercise - need to start on the garden - so digging should burn a few calories I hope.

Discovered that you need to burn or reduce by 3,500 calories for every 1lb weight lost! So for me, that will be 7000 calories less this week to lose the 2lbs
