Loving the fact that the 'support' you so desperately need has come in the form of two new members. What a surprise.

Viktory, just the record I have been a long time reader of the forums, especially vents and consumer help ones. I did previously post under another name which stupidly was based on my own name. I did ask the mods to change it but didn't get a reply until about a month later by which time I had set-up a new account. But I don't really post much only if I have something worthy to add to the post.

Since I happen to know the lady in the northern echo article and knew she was telling the truth, I thought I would make the OP aware of this incident as well. After Amanda's case was investigated by the police, it was found that she had not been careless or risky with her bank details but Abbey National still reacted by closing her account without warning.

But hey let's not welcome other people to the forums, who may have something to contribute, we'll just have a dig at people so you can get a high post count, eh??

How was her reputation damaged? She didn't even know anyone in there! :rotfl:
I would imagine that was the problem, to be publicly humiliated for something you are innocent of, anyone else in there she might have known, could well have thought "she isn't like that", lets assume her neighbour was in there, Ms Gossip, completely tarring her reputation on her very Street, but strangers are far LESS going to think her innocent, akin to being accused of shoplifting in a store, in full view of all the shoppers, you know your not guilty of.

I think a discreet "apology" is not even nearly enough, unless the accusation was made just as discreetly. Which is not the case, therefore it is only fair that the apology is made "publicly" in full view of all the other customers, all of whom could have just as easily been accused so innocently yet so openly. Damaging their reputation just as easily.

Jesus and one wonders how the human race manages to survive with people feeling 'emotionally fragile' over something like that.

    Hello Natalie,

That's the sort of horrible experience I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Oh come on... the reason this country's going down the toilet is because we're breeding people who are emotional jellies and who cave instantly under a bit of pressure.

Having fraud problems is hardly new. My card was cloned last year and I found out when my card was declined in a petrol station. I had no other form of payment and the rather lairy person on the till in this local garage was intent on calling the police if I didn't pay. There were customers behind me whilst I was being accused of trying to get away with a tank of petrol. You know what I did? I told him that I was going to get cash from a bank and if he phoned the police on me he'd better sleep with one eye open from that day forth.

There's two ways you can go...you can dissolve into a little pile of self-pity and 'emotional fragility' or you can grow a bloody backbone and fight your corner. I'm female, all of 5'3 and I don't give a flying crap what people think of me...if I'm wrongly accused of something you can bet you'll have a 'free and frank exchange of views' then and there.

It seems to me that if Abbey have apologised and given her a goodwill gesture then it's done and dusted. If she's worried about what other people who happened to be around think of her, then that's really a problem with her own confidence and lack of self-worth than it is of Abbey's IMO.

And you can wish what you like on me kiddo....you're meaningless in my life :D
PS: Have a nice whisky...I'm sure you'll feel better soon

Oh not at all. Though I can see why you've bailed into this thread...you're a bit of an emotional jelly yourself looking at your posting history vis-a-vis drinking ;)

I just don't have a lot of time for the weak.
