  • not interested in the good will payment and do you honestly think it would be something significant for them not to tell me? Ha!
Phone relationships are no good...nothing can be logged by the individual.
I don't want an apology from an telephone assistant, whether or not you believe it, it's worth more than that...I want an apology following an investigation into this situation. I want to stop it happening to some other poor person.

If i had given interest into the goodwill payment....it would appear that I was accepting it. It was done prior to them telling me about it...
I was wrongly labelled fraudulent and fraud is seen as an offence that can often lead to imprisonment...so people telling me to get over it, should step in my shoes. A solicitor has informed me that it is worthy of further investigation...i am not here for you to tell me my solicitor is wrong but was here for support and potential ideas from people who may have been in a similar situation.

Jeezzz...you are a tough bunch of cookies aren't you?
  • They have already apologised.

You are just coming across as one of those high maitainance "nothing is good enough" pains in the !!!....

Take the cash, have a drink and move on with your life... jeez, tonight watch the images from Haiti on the news and maybe that will put things into perspective for you.

Irrelevant - it is libel/slander if it is heard by anyone (apart from the parties themselves).

It is not irrelevant when assessing any damages though.

The fact that very few people heard it would mean minimal damages in a court of law. The bank would also have to be proven to have slandered the OP. SO I think this avenue is a waste of time for the OP.

I also think the OP, using her real name, to talk about this is simply perpetuating the defamation she is complaining about which is rather odd.

I can understand the OP's concern but banks are governed by rules regarding money laundering. I was interrogated by my bank manager for the crime of paying three large cheques into my account "they may be forged", "it is the rules guv". A pain, especially when the Manager marched me into her office from the desk when I was making the payment in front of plenty of people.

I think the bank have done what they needed to and have acted very quickly compared to some.

I was the victim of chequebook fraud 18 years ago and £1100 was removed (effortlessly) from my account despite the fact that I had the entire chequebook stopped, and asked for the bank card I was expecting, to be held at the branch for me to collect. Needless to say the Nat Pest didn't stop the cheques and posted the card to me 2 days later. I was accused in the public lobby of not doing the above so a few days later, I waited until lunchtime when the bank was full and then stood in the same public area and spouted my story very loudly to a captive and captivated audience. I can't tell you how much satisfaction that gave me!

    Is that against forum rules?

I was hoping for info regarding what other people would do and to see whether anyone could offer further help or personal experience of a similar situation. Maybe even get some support while i'm going through it...something a solicitor doesn't include in the package.

Not against the rules, I don't think.

I think he was wondering what we, who are essentially lay people, would know better than a solicitor.

    Hello Natalie...

Were you were actually ACCUSED of fraud or did they say they BELIEVED you MAY be trying to access the account fraudulently and as a precaution put a block on your accounts

Bank staff obviously have procedures to ensure your account isn't accessed by an impersonator

How are you going to prove who said what

I'm sure its been an upsetting experience but try and put it behind you

    best regards

  • Hi Natalie, just a quick message of support and that I hope you get this sorted out. We seem to believe we have this personal relationship with our banks until they treat us like crap.

Also I thought I would direct you (can't post the link yet) to our local newspaper up in the North East, it's the Northern Echo and a story about a lady called Amanda Fothergill who had a similar problem.

This lady was treated appallingly by Abbey as well, after receiving a telephone call from someone claiming to have put a load of money into her account she alerted the police and her bank as this person appeared to her all her details unfortunately, and therefore Abbey frozen all her accounts with them until it was fully investigated by the police. But once it was sorted they got heavy handed with her and closed the accounts down. I believe she got approx £200 compensation for the distress caused as they basically told her on the spot they were closing them, no warning, etc. It's starting to sound quite a common scenario from them.
