They made a mistake ( I have made one or two myself )
    They have owned up.
    They have paid up.
You do not know how much they have paid.
You know it is not enough.
It follows that no amount would satisfy you.
It may be that your post should be in a different forum.

Try Schillings who will most likely give you initial advice regarding libel/slander over the phone for free. They'll be able to gauge whether whatever compensation has been offered is appropriate. You say Abbey have admitted a "serious error occurred on their part". Make sure you communicate this apparent admission of liability if you decide to make contact. Defamation law is an expensive and specialist area which is why not many solicitors have experience in this field.

I'd be pretty annoyed if that had happened to me or even if I'd witnessed it. What they did is not 'just a mistake' - calling someone a fraudster without basis is careless, but doing so verbally within earshot of members of the public is simply inexcusable and indicates bad judgement on the part of the branch staff.

  • Thank you so much Crabman. The letter I have sent has stated that Abbey has admitted a "massive error" on their part. I shall contact them first thing in this morning. Thank you for you educated reply. People seem to be ignoring the fact that they have no told me how much has been put in one account as a good will gesture...it was put in before I agreed to it and do not find it sufficient to apologise for their error. It may be a mistake...but some mistakes have the potential to damage a person's life financially and healthwise. I thank everyone for your suggestions and well wishes but am also glad that some of you will never cross my path in life and hope that the way you approach certain people (because you are behind a computer screen) does not reflect your personalities in real life. I will no longer comment on this thread as it is, admittedly, in the wrong place.

I will keep everyone, who is interested up to date with what happens regarding this situation,
    Thanks again guys

Oh, & Dave...I bet my surname is far more interesting than your personality! LMFAO
