Natalie , I understand how angry and upset you rightly feel, and you are of course very welcome to come and rant on here, but Dippychick has given you the best advice any lay person can give I'm afraid.
I hope you stay with us on the forum, we're nice really, even nordtraveller;):D

I hope you get it all resolved soon!!

You had two accounts with them.

You now have two accounts with them plus some extra cash.

They made a mistake. They've apologised and put it right.

I don't think you could ask for much more.
  • Thank you! I'm just looking to rant lol. I want a formal apology & some form of compensation. I'm not a typical complainer though and don't really know how people go about these things. I wont be banking with them and will withdraw my custom once the matter has been resolved. The letter is as long as a large essay and states how serious the matter is lol...sent it recorded delivery earlier. I was just looking for something to turn to and was wondering whether people on here would add any ideas as to what else i could do...that is all
  • LandyAndy...I was wrongly accused of fraud in a public vicinity! Embarrassed and made to feel awful infront of the public! They certainly owe me! If this had happened to someone famous...they would be sueing for millions! Am i not correct? I didn't agree to the way they "put it right" I am not interested in the goodwill gesture and want an official apology for the way I was treated

  • i'd keep the accounts open till its resolved then empty them and go elsewhere

did you sent the complaint letter to the address in milton keynes? they are useless but thats the first port of call

i made a complaint about a branch and having returned back nothing has changed

am i the only one that thinks this is a disgrace?? to be accused of any crime is surely a police matter, not a case for some jumped up bank manager to do, secondly its in front of other people.

thirdly, they then find out that she isnt a fraudster, but it was a mistake on their part,,,,,oh, ok then, take 50 quid from us and we'll say no more about it.

damn right, i would be angry with them and wanting to know exactly on what basis i was accused of this, why they thought it was satisfactory to deal with this in an open branch and not in a private room. hurt feelings, emotional distress, embarrassment etc. all those people in the branch at the time do not know that she wasnt a criminal. what if one of those people was a prospective employer or work colleague?

I too think this is an absolute disgrace and it's not OK for them to brush this off with a few £££s.

The Solicitor you saw gave you free initial advice - he could have been ruthless and wrote the letter for you, charging possibly £150/£250 an hour plus the cost of the letter.. perhaps £20 (which the secretary writes on about £8 an hour ).

  • yes beforehollywood...it's being sent to milton keynes. Thanks Jenner...i thought i was barking up the wrong tree and making a big deal out of it. They didn't even tell me how much was put in the account (wasn't interested) but the supervisor i spoke to understood completely why I wanted to take it further. It's such a shame as I have been with Abbey all my life. If I can stop this happening to another individual..I've done my bit!
  • if it gets sent to milton keynes make sure you get a reference number
