I've slept 24 hours out of the past 48...I'm feeling marginally human again now. (fingers crossed it lasts)

Speaking as someone who hasn't worked for the last 15 years (but not claimed any benefits - a life style choice that worked well for DH and I as he loved his job), the prospect of going back to work this year was really exciting, I've missed adult company...I've craved it and was soooooo looking forward to it. That's all changed now and for the time being I don't get a choice (and I don't mean that in a nasty way as I love DH to bits and would move heaven and earth to make sure he's looked after) DH has had that choice removed too and the prospect of having the idylic time together that we'd talked about for retirement has suddenly become a bit of a grim benefit ridden reality with a disability thrown in for good measure.....

I think what I'm trying to say (in a very confused way) is that the grass always seems greener, it rarely is and it has a nasty habbit of turning into a complete muddy bog just as you're about to step into it.

Just taking a quick coffee (creme egg) break.

Sally - sad sod that I am I love doing tax returns

If I won the lottery I would just do my work for free for people/small businesses who needed help...whilst employing a personal trainer and maybe a housekeeper.

Maz....you could have a career if you carried on your studies......:D

Elfen - where did you get your phone insurance...I have just got DD2 a blackberry but she is well known for losing phones...and breaking them.

A rewarding job/career/vocation is important for emotional well being...isn't it Bookie, I wish I could help in some way...I am waiting for some client to turn up with a mass of paperwork that doesn't have to be done yesterday so you can do it for me.

I'm pretty sure than knowing my tendancy to shop when I'm bored/miserable/lonely, I could spend my way through £200k in a matter of months. :D

Maybe if I won the lottery I could set up a very exclusive little lingerie boutique. In South Leeds. :rotfl:

  • back from the hospital, needles, syrup, more needles. Wasn't too bad really - having a morning off work to read magazines, watch Lorraine Kelly on the waiting room TV and drink Mead flavoured cordial. I could quite get used to it!! :rotfl:

Just having lunch, then pootling back off to work. It's my teacher training class this afternoon though so quite a relaxing day as I won't be starting work until 3.30 when the class finishes!

    And the results BB??

I have tried a couple of times to be a 'housewife' cos as SRM said the cost of childcare made earning prohibitive years ago...I literally went to work to pay for childcare, but enabled me to work my way into a career, did wonders for my self confidence and to be honest my kids reaped the benefit of a happy mum.

At home with no 'work' to do I found myself becoming agrophobic and even if i had enough money to do the pampering everyone I wanted to go with was at work!!!!!

As Becky said at the minute I have the best of both worlds, I can choose to go to the office, work in the morning at night, at home in my pj's and although I have some ups and downs the last few months, I feel a lot happier with my lot today - i think the exercise is helping immensley Sally, so I will go to the gym today whether DD1 gets here or not.

Pooky, I can only hope that in your circumstances I would cope as well as you do.

Life can be hard if you care for someone who has a disability. You learn to adapt, and you adjust your picture of what the 'perfect' life would be. I'm aware that I am very lucky, because Ryan will be able to live independantly as an adult, with a little support. If someone had told me last year, at his worst point, that it was going to be like that forever, I am not sure how I would have dealt with that.

If you love someone though, you just have to I guess. There's that period of denial/anger etc, but acceptance comes pretty quickly.
