Where would you draw the line though? (And I know it wasn't your opinion, just an interesting point)

What amount is 'enough' to give up work (and who would make that decision)? It would have to be enough to be certain you would never have to work again for the rest of your days (and I'm not sure a couple of million is, because whilst it might more than cover your current lifestyle, if you won a signifiant amount, it's human nature to want a better house, better car, nice holidays, new clothes etc. And then there's all the new activities you would have to pay for, the posh gym, the pampering sessions, the lunches with the girls, the parties...). A few years out of the job market and you become a very much less appealing prospect to potential employers, your skills are out of date, etc. So if he money ran out, you can't necessarily waltz back into a job, and almost certainly not into a rewarding career.

In reality though Maz - wouldnt you feel bad about spending all his money? Not all of it obviously but you get my drift...

I've never been wholly comfortable spending anyone elses money... Big G and i split everything proportionally, and there were times when i had no money and he gave me some. but i didnt like it.....

i think next serious partnership i go into, i intend to have the more traditional money relationship.... (i know, thats a big assumption that i'll ever be in that position again!) stick it all in a pot and spend what you need to... (as i'd not have debt i think i would be happier with that now moreso than ever)

honestly tho, you're probably right i would probably need to earn my own money if the bloke was on an good to average wage..... but if he was stinking filthy rich then no, i think i could justify my spending habits!! Or at least pay for them in kind... (by which i mean keeping my 5 bedroom house tidy/walking the springer spaniels/seeing to the gardener etc!)
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

  • I hate the Jobcentre. Got the obnoxious, scruffy lad again.

I am now the proud owner of 3 carrots, 1 leek, 15 sprouts (greedy I know),a bag of onions and milk so weekly shop done. :D

    More snow on Wed/Thurs apparently.

    I'm a bit blue today.

and there is the crux.... i'm not in a rewarding career.... so i would happily waltz out if i could....

and waltz back into a job in the co-op if i needed to....

(i was gonna say tescos, but they are obviously far too picky!)

 You haven't seen the staff at my local Tescos! :rotfl:

Mind you, they are slightly better than the ones at Morrisons!

I worked this out a few days ago, actually; I'm pretty confident that I could give up working and sit on my behind for the rest of my days, if I had £200k saved up and all my debts/mortgages paid. It'd just be a matter of resisting the temptation to buy fancy new stuff, and keep living the DFW life.

It doesn't help that I have almost exactly that much in debt, so it'd have to be £400k later before I could retire... :D

Big numbers. Too big for a Monday morning, I fear.

Ta Snags, it's only a little one but hey, every little helps!

My dad works at Tescos and all the staff in the local stores know him and love him, they call him a legend as he has a way with the deliveries and getting them away and out that no-one else can do; he's in effect the delivery manager but doesn't get paid for it :(
